Actuary at Discovery Limited

The successful applicant will work in a highly specialised team of actuaries and data scientists who regularly interact with Discovery executives, medical scheme Boards of Trustees, external actuaries, brokers and regulators.

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to:

The role involves the following responsibilities:

• Perform the reserving, pricing and other statutory functions for client medical schemes
• Pricing, valuation and actuarial projections and business planning for non-medical scheme health insurance products – in both Individual and Corporate markets
• Perform financial projections for other businesses within Discovery Health
• Conduct investigations into specific parts of the Discovery Health business
• Assist in preparing healthcare policy submissions by analysing Discovery’s data
• Assist with the pricing of exciting new Discovery Health products before their launch
• Assist international partners with Vitality integration into their health businesses
• Identify and build appropriate models to drive insights across the Discovery Group
• Present data and model findings in a way that provides actionable insights for business users
• Develop actuarial students' knowledge of the healthcare industry and Discovery’s wider businesses

Education and experience:

• At least 3 years working experience
• A qualified actuary or a nearly qualified actuary
• A background in healthcare is advantageous, but candidates from other actuarial areas are also free to apply
• High level of confidence with Microsoft Excel
• SQL experience is an advantage
• Knowledge of modelling packages such as SPSS or R is an advantage
