    Administrative Assistant Science

    CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

    • The Department of Chemistry at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) prides itself with a long history of excellence in Learning & Teaching, Research in various fields of chemistry (i.e. Analytical, Organic, In-organic & Physical etc.) and is actively involved in activities and initiatives targeted at the broader community. Its activities stretch across three campuses, namely South Campus, North Campus and InnoVenton. The purpose of the job is to provide quality administrative support to staff and student in the Department of Chemistry to ensure the smooth administrative functioning thereof and to enhance the admin support provided to students.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    • Provide general administrative support required for the diploma and advanced diploma programs in the Department of Chemistry; includes advisory board, timetables, orientation, liaison, meetings, and minute taking, venue booking and maintain diploma and advanced diploma documents for audit purposes.
    • Provide general staff and student administration support.
    • Effectively handle, update, and maintain Chemistry diploma and advanced diploma Handbook, Chemistry website, and social media.
    • Perform any related duties as and when required.

    CORE COMPETENCIES

    • Excellent administration and records management skills.
    • Ability to work on own initiative, priorities, planning and organizing.
    • Be flexible and adaptable and be open and receptive to changes and demonstrate the ability to multitask, shift priorities and incorporate new ideas.
    • Fully computer literate and willing to learn the university’s existing ITS system.
    • Very good interpersonal, ethical and communication skills.
    • Excellent email etiquette.

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 qualification.
    • A minimum of 1-year administrative experience in a computerised environment.
    • Previous administrative experience within a university will be an added advantage.
