AFR Cross Trade Gateway Controller at DHL

• Build and Develop trade lane consolidations for South African export traffic. Engage with the Global DGF network to promote and develop the Gateway for neighboring countries and local coastal branches. Coordinate day-to-day operations within the Airfreight Gateway. Assist & support ACC Manager in rate & capacity procurement as required

• In this AFR Cross Trade Gateway Controller position

AFR Gateway Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the day-to day operations within the airfreight Gateway
• Managing and executing consolidated bookings for local or international moves through the Gateway
• Actively drive & manage consolidation program to optimize product profitability & growth
• Build relationships within the DGF network to promote the DGF Gateway
• Act as primary contact & support network for inquiries related to the Airfreight Gateway
• Ensure good relationships on the day-to-day work with carriers and sub-contractors at country level
• Ensuring accurate tariffs application on all shipments billings.
• Handle customer complaints and enquiries.
• Provide high levels of customer service with a sense of urgency.
• Assist Airfreight Gateway Manager to meet department targets.
• Maintain excellent relationships with suppliers
• Responsible for identifying performance issues of suppliers and propose solutions to improve/correct performance
• Performs booking and booking optimization according to internal guidelines as defined by Product
• Sets, communicates and monitors indicators of consolidation efficiency
• Ensures route planning and capacity allocation in country
• Supports negotiation of key contracts with carriers
• Assist to evaluate airlines and subcontractors operational performances to achieve operation excellence
• Escalates local carrier performance issues to Carrier Management when required
• React to market changes & environment by helping to redesign product offering
• Perform regular process reviews with the Gateway Manager to ensure compliance with company standards & processes
• All other tasks that can be relevant to the development and operation execution of the Gateway department
• Receive Estimate from Client and Send Estimate to Custom and follow-up with customer
• Check Quote Shop for rates loaded If no rates available in Quote Shop request rates from origin station
• Request SLI from customer if estimate approved
• Arrange Quick booking on CW and send request to origin to arrange
• Receive booking confirmation from origin station within 48 hour and send to client
• Request draft HB from origin, quality check and send to customer for approval, confirm to origin once approved
• Request commercial invoice from Customer that must be used for import certificate application ECTN/BSC/CNCA.
• Quality Check ETA details provided by origin station with shipping and ETA details and update customer
• Invoice shipment based on estimate or rate agreements / process billing to local customer and / or bill back origin station
• Updating Mandatory milestones CW1
• Contact customer and assist them will ALL QUERIES including lanes that are not being handled by DGF ZA.
• Communicating with Top management from DHL origin and destination, suppliers, consignees, shippers, CSI, Sales for specific customers
• Understanding origin and destination rules and regulations for Africa Countries.
• Updating SOP for any new requirements for African Countries

• Extensive knowledge of Air Freight Logistics and Operations
• Global Logistics and Geographical knowledge
• Strong Communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Ability to identify and meet customer needs in a timely, pleasant, and friendly manner
• Commercial attitude
• Good administration skills
• Results driven and attention to details
• Computer and Microsoft Office Literate
• Basic Financial Acumen (Revenue, Cost, Gross Profit, etc)
• Weekend Overtime if required
• Must have a Grade 12
• Preferable tertiary education including diploma an advantage.
• CAT6 DG certificate preferred
• Preferred Cargowise experience
