    AGYW Field Youth Worker (Gert Sibande District, Mpumalanga)

    Position Description: 

    • The  AGYW Field Youth Worker will be responsible for supervising, mentoring and tracking progress of AGYW Mentors in DREAMS safe spaces in the community, including schools and churches.
    • The  AGYW Field Youth Worker will support AGYW Mentors to establish trusting relationship with the AGYW in the different groups to effectively provide education and referrals to essential services to ensure AGYW are empowered, remain healthy and HIV-free.
    • The  AGYW Field Youth Worker will work under the supervision of the DREAMS District Coordinator, in the FHI 360 Capacity Development and Support (CDS) DREAMS project.

    Key Responsibility Areas

    • Identify safe spaces in the community, through working closely with community gatekeepers and DREAMS and OVC partners where AGYW will be mentored
    • Work with DC’s, Program Assistant, Peer Navigators & civil society organizations to Support the recruitment of vulnerable AGYW Mentors in the target communities within the DREAMS districts
    • Provide individual and group supportive supervision, mentoring and guidance to AGYW Mentors for quality implementation of the DREAMS program
    • Support AGYW Mentors in daily and weekly planning, including coordinating and scheduling YPA sessions and linkages to economic strengthening services
    • Strengthen bi-directional referrals to ensure all AGYW participating in YPA sessions are also linked to other DREAMS core package of services as well as non-DREAMS services, through working with PEPFAR  and non PEPFAR partners
    • Provide oversight and quality checks for implementation of YPA sessions and DREAMS package of services for all AGYW in Safe Spaces, including session observations, site visits to safe spaces and review of program documents/tools
    • Track and report AGYW Mentor progress on implementation of YPA sessions
    • Support PM and DCs in the recruitment of AGYW Mentors within targeted DREAMS districts
    • Coordinate linkages and layering of AGYW, through working with Peer Navigators and Learner Support Agents for DREAMS services as well as ES opportunities.
    • Work with DCs to coordinate and facilitate training of AGYW Mentors on YPA  as well as program orientation
    • Identify training needs through mentorship of AGYW Mentors and compile summary and progress reports for AGYW mentor interventions
    • Participate in data validation, through work with SI Officers and data capturers in the district/sub-districts
    • Conduct Performance reviews for AGYW Mentors on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
    • Conduct DREAMS Performance reviews at sub-district level with AGYW Mentors
    • Conduct debriefing sessions for AGYW Mentors in safe spaces.
    • Support District Coordinators to accelerate implementation and mitigate risks of the DREAMS program where required
    • Represent FHI 360 and AGYW Mentors at local fora and meetings as required
    • Ensure verification and quality checks of all data submitted and consolidation of daily, weekly and monthly data reports from Safe Spaces and submit to District Coordinator for reviews  and submission to SI Officer
    • Submit comprehensive daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the DREAMS Coordinator using the established reporting templates
    • Undertake any other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications, Experience/Skills:

    • Completed High school education
    • Qualification (Degree, diploma or tertiary Certificate) in social sciences, gender studies, health, human development, Economic development or related field.
    • At least 3 years’ project coordination, implementation and monitoring experience in HIV, GBV, ES or any other AGYW empowerment programs
    • Experience in capacity building and training of project staff, especially field staff such as community care workers, mentors, community facilitators, peer navigators or demand creation teams
    • Previous experience as a team leader, mentor, or ambassador role
    • Female 18 – 35 years old
    • Live in the community where the DREAMS project will be implemented
    • Some experience in community work (Voluntary, Community Care worker, DREAMS Ambassador)
    • Passionate about empowering girls to improve their safety and completion of school
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English and other local languages.
    • Ability to manage work independently, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities.
    • Ability to work under pressure and strong interpersonal skills
    • Flexible and willingness to undertake additional responsibilities

    Travel

    60 -80% travel time within the sub-district
