Artisan Plumber: Water Meters (Permanent) at Breede Valley Municipality

BASIC SALARY: R 301 845.75 – R 391 762.44 per annum [T10] 
TOTAL COST TO COUNCIL: R 425 472 – R 542 065 per annum   (Inclusive of Municipal benefits: Group Life Scheme, Pension Fund etc.)

Job Purpose:

• Responsible for maintenance and repairing of water meters, bulk water lines and pump stations within the Breede Valley Municipal area. 

Duties: 

• Performs specific tasks and duties associated with the maintenance of water meters, bulk water lines and pump station. 
• Repair and maintain water meters – remove faulty meter and install new meters. Test for leakages.  
• Repair burst pipes on bulk lines and attend to plumbing duties at all water treatment works. 
• Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. tally sheets, log sheet, progress report, etc.) and related forms (vehicle checklist). 
• Capture operational data on computer software using a computer. 
• Supervises and controls the activities of personnel and associated tasks. 
• Controlling the attendance and timekeeping of personnel and reporting deviations to the immediate superior. 
• Plan the weekly work schedule in liaison with the immediate superior and allocate tasks to subordinates and ensure the proper execution thereof. 
• Performs specific tasks associated with the operation of vehicles during maintenance activities. 
• Adhere to health and safety regulations in terms of OHS Act. 
• Co-ordinates activities associated with the construction and installations of water networks. 
• Installing valves, flow meters and/ or bends, joins and diverts pipes using couplings and/ or seam welding techniques. 
• Co-ordinates activities/ sequences associated with trouble shooting/ fault finding and repairing faults in the water reticulation systems. 
• Inspecting and identifying leaks in the system, isolating defective area and commencing with repair sequence. 
• Removing and replacing defective flow metering units and connections to domestic household/ industrial premises. 
• Clearing blocked drainage and wastewater systems using high pressure cleaning systems to remove debris/ trapped waste. 

Minimum Requirements: 

• Trade certificate. 
• 2 years’ relevant experience. 
• Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP. 
• Attention to detail. 
• Computer literate. 
• Proficiency in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages in the Western Cape.
