Job Description

• Our client is looking for an Assistant Fashion Designer to join their team in Durban. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing beautiful, elevated seasonal collections that align with the brand vision and meet market demands. Working alongside a dedicated creative design team, the role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to product development across both retail and eCommerce channels, with access to premium mills and factories to realize design intent.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure product aligns with the brand vision and marketplace opportunities.
• Conduct market research to identify external product trends across relevant product elements.
• Interpret and curate seasonal collections in line with the brand’s creative direction.
• Execute design vision across all product elements, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Conceptualize, develop, and execute new ideas, designs, and products to elevate the brand.
• Evaluate and suggest business opportunities considering both top-line growth and profitability.
• Stay informed on industry trends and cultural influences to bring fresh insights to the design team.

Requirements:

• Relevant education in fashion design with proven design skills.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Excel.
• Strong technical and construction knowledge in fashion design.
• Commitment to learning and applying business and leadership principles.
• Ability to prioritize tasks with a strong sense of urgency.
• Passion for the fashion industry and understanding of current trends.
• Ability to translate trends into brand-appropriate designs that enhance the business.
• A portfolio of previous design work is required.
