Assistant Glazing Maintenance Worker at University of the Witwatersrand

Purpose:

• To perform building maintenance, repairs and related glazing services/functions within the property/built environment pertaining to all University buildings and surrounding infrastructure, as specified in works orders, under direct supervision (where applicable)

Brief Description        
Responsibilities: 

• Installation of glass in windows frames, skylights, shopfronts, display cases or on surfaces such as building fronts, interior walls, ceilings and table tops are conducted at a high quality standard
• Minor repairs such as window holders, replacement of glass in windows frames and shopfronts are timeously completed as per work order request
• Conduct building inspections
• Ensure that materials and goods are collected and delivered at the agreed time to the respective premises 
• Ensure that health and safety is adhered to at all times
• Completion of work
• Quality of workmanship adhered to at all times 
• General cleaning
• Carry out responsibilities and duties according to the OHS Act
• Conduct a basic health and safety inspection
• Alcohol and Substance Abuse tests as per the University’s Policies
• Full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) compliance
• Safe use of hand tools and equipment
• Securing tools and equipment before transportation
• Off-loading on authorized areas
• Carrying and lifting items according to OHS Act
• Undertake duties and tasks as prescribed from time to time by the line manager and OFMD Management
• Required to work overtime or on weekends

Required Academic Qualification/s (and Professional Registration/Trade where applicable):

• Matric/Grade 12
• N3/N4 
• N4 Trade Certificate - Desirable

Licenses:

• Valid driver’s license – Code B

Required Years of Work Related Experience:

• 3 years General Glazing Maintenance in a property/built environment
