    Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer (Faculty of Health Sciences: Department of Emergency Medical Care)

    Job description

    • The Department of Emergency Medical Care, within the Faculty of Sciences on the Doornfontein Campus, currently offers a range of emergency medical care and rescue qualifications.

    Job Description:

    • The successful incumbent would be responsible for facilitation of teaching, learning and assessment activities for undergraduate medical rescue and emergency medical care students including supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research.

    Responsibilities:

    • Facilitating research-led teaching, learning and assessment activities for undergraduate emergency medical care students in the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Emergency Medical Care programme.
    • Research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Contribute to the department’s peer-reviewed research outputs.
    • Contribute to an appropriate level of department and faculty policy and practice in teaching and play a significant role in the review of modules and programmes and in quality assurance and enhancement as required.
    • Participate in, and facilitate, clinical learning, simulated learning events and placements  including the mentoring of students on the clinical learning platform.
    • Organize and participate in physical fitness and swimming training including the conducting of related assessments.

    Minimum requirements

    Minimum requirements for Associate Professor:

    •  A PhD (NQF-10) in Emergency Medical Care or emergency care-related discipline
    • Five years registration (and currently registered) with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner
    • Extensive working experience in teaching and learning in the field of emergency medical care
    • Supervision of postgraduate students (Masters and Doctoral) to completion
    • National Research Foundation (NRF) Rating (in exceptional cases, where the applicant is not rated, the candidate must achieve NRF rating within 1 year)
    • Code B driver’s license.
    • Candidates must be in a position to pass the Departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.

    Minimum requirements for Senior Lecturer:

    • A PhD (NQF-10) in Emergency Medical Care or emergency care-related discipline
    • Two years registration (and currently registered) with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
    • Two years working experience in teaching and learning in the field of emergency medical care
    • A demonstrated track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
    • Some evidence of supervision of postgraduate students
    • Code B driver’s license
    • Candidates must be in a position to pass the Departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Computer literacy
    • Good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to interact with colleagues
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills
    • Enthusiastic, tenacious and have a passion for clinical work, teaching and research

    Recommendations:

    • Knowledge of faculty and academic policies, rules, and regulations.
    • Experience with online and or remote learning platforms.
