Job description

• We are looking for skilled and experienced Platform Engineer that will be responsible for:
• Planning, designing and developing cloud-based applications.
• Managing cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines as well as AWS technical foundation baselines.
• Architect, support and implement DevSecOps best practice into CI/CD pipelines and drive these initiatives with product development teams.
• Providing technical expertise to our product support, business support and development teams.

Minimum requirements
Qualification / Experience Requirements: 

•  At least 5 years proven and referenceable work experience as a Platform Engineer and/or Cloud Platform Engineer.
• At least 5 years’ experience working with Linux (ideally Debian, Ubuntu or CentOS).
• At least 5 years’ solid experience working with cloud infrastructure, ideally Amazon Web Services (EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, VPCs, etc); with AWS certification in place.
• All the above can be overlayed (i.e. collective 5 year’s experience). 

Knowledge:

• Ability to translate architectural requirements into cloud solutions / deployments.
• Capability to select the appropriate services based on compute, data, or security requirements.
• Ability to deploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems (demonstrates understanding of High Availability, Continuity Planning, Backups and Recovery).
• Proven knowledge of networking concepts is essential (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Subnets, Routing and Firewalls).
• Experience in implementing 24/6/365 monitoring and detection with alerts (e.g. uptime, utilisation, resources, workloads and optimisation). Use of CloudWatch or other tools essential.
• Experience in deploying, implementing various Cloud or Open Source based tools to support your operational requirements.
• Experience in implementing Security best practice, such as IAM and roles, Public Clouds vs Private Zones, Least Privileges, Segregation of Duties and Change Control etc
• Proven experience implementing CI/CD techniques (Octopus Deploy, TeamCity, Atlassian Pipelines, Jenkins etc).
• Proven experience Manage the cloud budget, estimate usage costs, and identify operational efficiencies or optimisation opportunities.
• Beneficial experience in promoting and architecting Serverless workloads (e.g. Lamba, API Gateway etc) is highly beneficial.
• Experience in Docker and Kubernetes is beneficial.
• Experience in migrating on-premises workload to cloud or hosted based environments; specifically Windows and Database (MSSQL, PostgreSQL or MySQL) is beneficial
• Experience in orchestration (Terraform, CloudFormation) is beneficial.

• Establish standards or best practice for Cloud Deployments, Configuration, etc.
• Taking ownership of issues reported and seeing problems through to resolution.
• Prioritise and manage several open issues to closure.
• Track issues through to resolution, within agreed time limits or commitments.
• Make use of internal tools for tasks management (Experience with ITSM and/or Atlassian suite advantageous).
• Document and update technical knowledge base, driving a learning culture and equipping the broader team for success
