    Bank Analyst - Pretoria

    Brief Description        

    • The main purpose of this position is to provide specialist knowledge, skills and experience in the area of capital management and public disclosure as part of a team of specialists to ensure that the Prudential Authority (PA) fulfils its capital management responsibilities.

    Detailed Description        
    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Review, analyse and evaluate banks’ internal capital-adequacy assessment process.
    • Review, analyse and evaluate insurers’ own risk and solvency assessment process.
    • Review and evaluate financial entities’ recovery plans.
    • Analyse and interpret risk-based regulatory returns for regulated entities.
    • Conduct research and provide input into the regulatory framework (e.g. the Banks Act 94 of 199 and Insurance Act 18 of 2017) in line with international best practice.
    • Interpret and develop amendments to the legislative framework based on international best practices.
    • Contribute towards international capital framework working committees.
    • Develop and implement the supervisory framework process in line with international best practice.
    • On-site reviews and assessments are conducted, which will require the candidate to travel.

    Job Requirements        
    To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

    • a relevant degree (e.g. in banking, insurance, risk management, finance, accounting or auditing); and
    • more than five years’ applicable experience in the financial sector or in risk management.

    The following would be an added advantage:

    • a postgraduate qualification in any of the aforementioned fields or certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) associate (or an equivalent associate) or Chartered Accountant CA(SA); and practical experience in a financial and/or business environment.

    Additional requirements include:

    • knowledge of, and experience in, financial, banking or insurance products, regulations, or risk models;
    • conversant in the second Pillar of the Basel III framework at both a theoretical and practical level and staying abreast of best practice in capital management;
    • an understanding of the Basel III framework regarding the definition of capital and leverage ratio;
    • conversant in the Insurance Act and its prudential standards and the information for supervisory purposes submitted by the insurance industry;
    • an understanding of the Insurance Core Principles, Guidance and Assessment Methodology;
    • a high level of knowledge, skills and experience in the relevant areas of specialisation;
    • able to work in a team;
    • being a self-starter;
    • effective time management;
    • proficiency in verbal communication;
    • competence in written communication; and
    • competence in Microsoft Office software packages.
