    Machine Learning Engineer (Junior)

     

    Key Outcomes may include but are not limited to:

    Machine Learning Automation and Software Engineering:

    • Design, build, and deploy machine learning and analytics automation processes.
    • Refactor existing code bases to enhance efficiency, robustness (in terms of testing, code quality), scalability and automation of machine learning workflows.

    Cloud-Native Development:

     

    • Utilize Databricks and Azure as a primary platform for data engineering and machine learning use cases.
    • Work within the Azure ecosystem, leveraging services such as Azure Functions, CosmosDB, API Gatway, Azure Machine Learning, etc. to build intelligent data applications.

    DevOps, Version Control, and Software Engineering:

     

    • Build out CI/CD pipelines to improve development and deployment practices. Hands-on experience with Git and DevOps tools such as Jenkins and Azure DevOps is required.
    • Build robust testing and monitoring capabilities for machine learning and AI use cases.
    • Knowledge of Terraform is advantageous.
    • Experience building APIs to serve machine learning models.
    • Apply software engineering best practices to develop robust, scalable, and maintainable code.
    • Create microservice applications using Docker and container orchestration tools like OpenShift.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions software solutions for machine learning and data use cases.
    • Create and maintain documentation of processes, technologies, and code bases.

    Machine Learning Frameworks:

    • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks/packages such as MLFlow, PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc is beneficial for the productionization of machine learning use cases.

    Collaboration:

    • Collaborate closely with data scientists, actuaries, data engineers, and other data software engineers to understand and address their data needs.
    • Contribute actively to the architecting of our bank's modern Machine Learning data ecosystem.

    Education and Experience: 

    • At least 1-3 years’ working experience as a Software Engineer.
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Other qualifications will be considered if accompanied by sufficient experience in software engineering.

    Technical skills or knowledge: 

     

    • 2-years’ experience using Python, SQL.
    • Exposure to Linux shell scripting advantageous.
    • Experience with Spark is advantageous.
    • Experience and interest in software architecture.
    • Knowledge of cloud compute services.
    • Familiarity with serverless computing and cloud-native development.
    • Keen interest in systems design and software architecture.
    • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks/packages (e.g MLFlow, Spark ML, Sklearn etc).
    • Understanding of CI/CD concepts and API development, implementation experience advantageous.

    Research and Development Manager(Technical Marketing)

    Key Outputs / Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

    • The chance to play a key part in producing high-quality presentations for Client Sales meetings, involving data gathering, interpreting information, and creating a polished overall look and feel.
    • The successful candidate will attend Client meetings, supporting the team in making sales, and will assist in inventing and tailoring the rapidly evolving product set that Discovery Green requires, demonstrating an innovative and agile product development mindset.
    • Responsibilities will also include assisting in reviewing and refining actuarial models related to the business' risk, pricing, and cashflow for governance and planning purposes. This role is expected to fit into the Discovery Green agile culture, where roles are not siloed, and individuals are likely to be expected to assist across different disciplines in sales, finance, actuarial, marketing, product development, and research.
    • Additionally, the role will involve assisting in the curation of models that optimise renewable energy aggregation from producers and allocation to consumers, as well as producing sales documents for clients, including propositions, contracts, quotations, and general overviews.
    • The successful candidate will collaborate with Marketing and Distribution teams to ensure the latest available assets, content, and information is available for clients and the distribution force. They will also derive new insights and make recommendations on product positioning, intermediary sales tools, position papers, and product development.

    Work Experience

    • At least 2 -3 years’ experience in Technical Marketing environment

    Actuarial Analyst - Sandton

    Key Purpose

    • Discovery Health administers a number of closed in-house employer medical schemes, as well as the largest open scheme in South Africa, the Discovery Health Medical Scheme. The Risk Intelligence team is responsible for the measurement and reporting of clinical experience for each of our client schemes, providing actuarial analytic support for managed care interventions, healthcare quality public reporting initiatives, provider contracting, and clinical profile reports of clinician utilisation patterns and adherence to evidence based clinical process measures.
    • You will be responsible for technical healthcare actuarial analysis, which may include regular monitoring reports, as well as detailed investigations for various initiatives. You will be expected to deliver clear and reliable results on tight and high-pressured deadlines at times. The job entails applying the principles of risk adjustment, in the healthcare context, to the clinical analysis of claims data to deepen understanding of the scheme experience for guiding appropriate interventions to ensure sustainability through improvement of efficiency and quality of care. You may also be involved in assisting with the pricing of exciting new Discovery Health products before their launch. Data and model findings need to be clearly communicated to business users.

    UX/UI Designer - Sandton

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Create interactive and visual design prototypes ranging from low to high design fidelity. 
    • Conduct user research and usability analysis.
