    Biodiversity Officer: Production Grade A: Biodiversity Planning and Stewardship (BC08/2023) - 8 positions

    Requirements:

    •   National Diploma (NQF 6)/ Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management/Natural Sciences or equivalent qualification within the related field plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Environment/ Biodiversity Conservation or related field.
    •   Knowledge of the National Environmental Management Act (107 of 1998), National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (10 of 2004) and the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (57 of 2003) An understanding of biodiversity and conservation management national policies and legislative frameworks in environmental management.
    •   Planning and coordination skills.
    •   Good computer skills.
    •   The ability to work independently and efficiently under pressure.
    •   Knowledge of managing projects; good communication skills (verbal and written).
    •   Good report writing.
    •   The ability to work independently and in a team.
    •   A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel within South Africa an internationally would be added advantages.

    Duties:

    •   Provide Support in implementation of the Biodiversity Stewardship (BDS) Programme.
    •   Provide scientific and technical support in post establishment support of biodiversity stewardship sites.
    •   Arrange and conduct site visits and prepare site visit reports.
    •   Provide in support the development and implementation of the National Botanical Gardens Expansion strategy.
    •   Coordinate the procurement process to publish the revision of the NBF (National Biodiversity Framework) on government gazette for implementation.
    •   Coordinate the development of biodiversity legislation tools to mitigate threats
    •   Provide support in the coordination of stakeholder meetings to identify Critical Biodiversity Areas and ecosystems.
    •   Facilitate the procurement process to publish the NEMA Section 24J Biodiversity Offset Guideline.
    •   Provide scientific inputs into draft Bioregional Plans.
    •   Provide scientific and technical support in mainstreaming biodiversity conservation in local government.
    •   Coordinate awareness raising events for biodiversity planning and commemoration of International Day (IDB) for Biodiversity.
    •   Develop systems to manage, process and analyse information and data for reporting.
    •   Stakeholder relation and management.

      • Shortlisted candidates must provide proof of successful completion of the course.
      • Furthermore, candidates shortlisted for the SMS post will be subjected to a technical exercise that intends to test relevant technical elements of the job. 
      • Following the interview and the technical exercise, the selection panel will recommend candidates to attend a generic managerial competency assessment in compliance with the DPSA directive on the implementation of competency-based assessments.
    • The person appointed to these positions will be subjected to a security clearance, the signing of a performance agreement and an employment contract.
