    Job Description

    • The purpose is to cut, process, and present meat products to the highest standards in line with the butchery manager’s production plans, ensuring quality, hygiene, and customer satisfaction.

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 or NQF4
    • 2+ years in a retail meat market
    • Recognized Butchery Apprenticeship or Learnership would serve as an advantage
    • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy cuts of meat.
    • Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate portioning and quality control.
    • Strong cutting and deboning skills
    • Familiarity with block tests and costings
    • Hygiene: Knowledge of food safety practices and cleanliness.
    • Understanding of food safety and sanitary requirements in the butchery.
    • Clean Criminal Record  

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Cutting and Preparing Meat: Skilled in cutting, deboning, and portioning various types of meat (beef, pork, lamb, poultry, etc.).
    • Manufacture sausages, mince, and other byproducts
    • Minimise cutting losses through proper technique
    • Follow daily production plans to meet demand
    • Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service by assisting customers with their meat selections, answering questions, and offering cooking tips.
    • Prepare customer orders on time and to specification
    • Inventory Management: Monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and ensuring freshness.
    • Maintaining Cleanliness: Keeping workstations, equipment, and display cases clean and sanitized.
    • Pricing and Labelling: Properly pricing and labelling meat products.
    • Compliance: Adhering to food safety regulations and health standards.
    • Follow strict hygiene and food safety standards.
