Be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate.
Hold formal tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Mining or Industrial Engineering, i.e. a degree or diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the mining industry with at least 5 years in managerial position in a mechanized mine.
Minimum 5 years’ experience using analysis to drive improvements through the application of Lean and/or Six Sigma tools and concepts.
Certified Lean and Six Sigma Black Belt.
A postgraduate qualification in a relevant technical discipline is advantageous.
Have a thorough understanding of the skills requirements and organizational design for a large deep level mechanized mining operation.
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment.
Undertakes technical analysis activities in own area. Collects and assesses evidence, generates and evaluates options and shares recommendations.
Demonstrates clear understanding of lean and six sigma tools (i.e. visual management, 6S, and elimination of 8 wastes)
Ability to drive Kaizen and DMAIC projects to deliver tangible measurements of continuous improvement in the areas of waste reduction and process improvement.
Demonstrates a systematic, knowledge-based problem-solving approach and structured methodologies (such as root cause analysis and statistical analysis) to investigate risks and opportunities to create effective, value-add technical solutions.
Experience with analysis, operational efficiencies and value chains.
Demonstrated ability to interface successfully on multiple organisational levels.
Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values.
Strong overall mining understanding and proficiency and the ability to undertake technical analysis activities in own area (collect and assess evidence, generate and evaluate options and share recommendations).
The ability to apply an in-depth understanding of the mining value chain to identify and execute on opportunities where technical expertise can enhance business performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver and execute process innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple disciplines.
Identify and deliver business improvement projects across the business.
Employ process improvement methodologies and the application of innovative thinking.
Work with key business stakeholders to build a continuous improvement environment.
Lead and facilitate LEAN / process improvement based workshops to drive ideas and solutions.
Elicit requirements and drive process change using employee interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, business analysis and workflow analysis.
Monitor project tasks and risks to foresee/identify potential problems and proactively identify solutions to address in advance.
To ensure the business impact and project objectives/dependencies are identified, reported on and managed at all times.
To complete post implementation reviews to ensure successful delivery has been achieved and to ensure that improvements can be made for future projects.
