    Category and Marketing Executive - Exports

    • We’re looking for a dynamic and results-driven Category and Marketing Executive - Exports to lead the development and execution of growth marketing strategies that elevate our brand presence across channels and categories.
    • The Category and Marketing Executive - Exports  will lead and develop the channel growth strategy across identified categories within RCL FOODS. Utilising data and insights to become the category/channel expert and by way of prioritisation determine the biggest growth opportunities to future fit RCL FOODS. Leverage knowledge across channels and categories to drive internal stakeholder influence (marketing, customer marketing and operations teams) to invest in and execute across South African borders.  This role reports to the New Business Development Director.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field.
    • 8+ years in category & customer marketing.
    • 3+ years in B2B market development and team leadership.
    • Valid Code EB driver’s license.
    • Regular international travel required for position.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Ability to identify white spaces opportunities and develop strategic frameworks to drive a prioritisation and investment model in specific categories and channels.
    • Ability to use various data points (quant & qual) to build strategies for specific channels and categories.
    • Ability to identify complex problems, review information to collaborate and develop options then implement solutions
    • Demonstrated business acumen with knowledge and understanding of business issues, priorities, goals, and strategy
    • Ability to identify where nett revenue management needs to be implemented across relevant channels to drive improved investment return.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, present complex ideas concisely and clearly articulate ideas verbally and in writing
    • Ability to build professional relationships with cross functional teams while facilitating a collaborative environment
    • Ability to influence and manage complex hybrid ways of working within the business.

    Specialising in:

    • Category development- creating strategies and plans to grow key existing categories and proposing opportunities to transform various channels across the African continent. Establish sources of growth through data driven insights. Develop an assessment model to determine future category and channel opportunities for growth.
    • Business to business channel development & planning– Create the channel plans that help achieve our sales and operating margin targets, incorporating the category and marketing insights developed and support tracking of this performance.
    • Shopper and consumer marketing– develop new programmes that recruit consumers to our brands and categories in identified growth channels. To work in collaboration with RCL SA marketing, customer marketing & innovation teams to deliver on the channel/category strategy implementation. Goal to eventually land consumer relevant innovation supporting the channel / category plan.

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Responsibilities Include:

    • Category/channel performance across key metrics; value, volume, and profitability.
    • Develop and execute brand building iniatives across country and category.
    • Lead quantitative and qualitative research within specific channels and categories.
    • Lead category management principles including but not limited to SPI, pack & price architecture and in-store flows across multiple channel and categories.
    • Drive effective business investment by implementing ROI and NRM initiatives.
    • Leading and people development within the RCL FOODS standards of leadership.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Develop systems and processes with external vendors to establish data and market insights to drive category understanding within each relevant channel targeted. Goal is to develop a repeatable source of data vendors/agencies to create metrics and KPIs to measure sales across the continent.
    • Develop category plans for existing categories and support channel plans to deliver against growth plan targets.
    • Bring market and category insights the relevant forum (AGP and BU) to share opportunities that will make RCL future-fit and relevant on the continent.
    • Build pack price architecture by category within specific channels to based on shopper and consumer insights.
    • Define strategic pricing and promotional strategy by brand, by channel for best possible return on investment.
    • Identify innovation opportunity by category and channel to make us more relevant in market.
    • Partner with the operations (route to market partners and channel/country Managers) team to establish, execute and manage channel marketing strategies and execute against each opportunity.
    • This includes but is not limited to initiatives around distribution (including 3rd party) & planogram (core products or innovation), everyday pricing compliance, promotional planning (depth, frequency, or quality of retailer execution) and trade spending reviews (efficient & profitable spending).
    • Ensure that operation team initiatives (category/channel plans) are effectively implemented with the identified customers
    • Review, analyse and present category reviews across channels (assortment analysis, performance and ranging – where there is available data) for use with external and internal stakeholders.
    • Support new product launches (developed for across channel opportunities) in focus channels in collaboration with RCL Customer Marketing.
    • Measure and review category performance; margins and channel/customer profitability
    • Provide leadership of team, talent attraction and retention, performance management; implement succession planning, development, and promotion plans
