    Chief Engineer - Civil/Structural

    Requirements :

    • A Degree (NQF 7) in Engineering (B Eng/ BSC Eng) in Civil/Structural Engineering or relevant qualification recognised by SAQA.
    • A minimum of six years post qualification experience as a registered Professional Engineer. A valid Driver’s License. Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.

    Duties :

    • Perform final review and approvals of audits on new engineering designs according to design principles or theory. Research the needs of the relevant health institutions. Co-ordinate design efforts and integration across disciplines to ensure seamless integration with current technology. Monitor current deployed technology. Pioneer new engineering services.
    • Manage the execution of maintenance strategy through the provision of appropriate structures, systems and resources. Set engineering maintenance standards, specifications and service levels according to organisational objectives to ensure optimum operational availability. Monitor maintenance efficiencies according to organisational goals to direct or redirect engineering services for the attainment of organisational objectives. Allocate, control, monitor and report on all resources.
    • Compile risk logs and manage significant risk according to sound risk management practice and organizational requirements. Provide technical consulting services for the operation on engineering related matters to minimise possible engineering risks. Manage and implement knowledge sharing initiatives e.g. short-term assignments and secondments within and across operations, in support of individual development plans, operational requirements and return on investment.
    • Monitor the exchange and protection of information between operations and individuals to ensure effective knowledge management according to departmental objectives. Manage the availability and management of funds to meet the MTEF objectives within the engineering environment/services. Manage the operational capital project portfolio for the operation to ensure effective resourcing according to organizational needs and objectives.
    • Facilitate the compilation of innovation proposals to ensure validity and adherence to organisational principles. Allocate, control and monitor expenditure according to budget to ensure efficient cash flow management. Assist with the establishment of the statutory structures as required in terms of the Act. Monitor OHS training interventions at all Health Facilities in terms of equipment. Monitor compliance of equipment with the OHS Act in all Health Facilities. Monitor training and related activities. Monitor safety audits.
    • Monitor waste management policies and procedures. Monitor effective implementation of waste management and compliance with legislative requirements. Ensure continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedure. Research on technical engineering technology to improve expertise. Liaise with relevant bodies and councils on engineering related matters. Undertake planning for future human resources needs. Maintain discipline.
    • Manage performance and development of development of employees. Undertake human resources and other related administrative functions. Establish and maintain effective and efficient communication arrangements. Develop and manage the operational plan. Plan and allocate work. Develop and implement processes to promote control of work. Serve on transversal task teams as required. Implement quality control of work delivered by employees.
