    Chief Occupational Nurse - Kriel

    PURPOSE:

    • To contribute to health and wellbeing of employees.
    • To develop the Primary and Occupational Health programmes of the Company and ensure the implementation thereof.
    • To ensure compliance to all statutory and non-statutory requirements according to the Company's strategic objectives.

    Minimum Requirements    

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • B Tech Occupational Health Nursing (Essential/Minimum)
    • Certificate First Line Management (Essential/Minimum)

    EXPERIENCE: 

    • 5 years  Relevant experience within Occupational Health nursing including TB/HIV related training and Primary Health Care Management (Essential/Minimum) Operational

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Reg: South African Nursing Council (Essential/Minimum)
    • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
    • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
    • Dispensing License (Essential/Minimum)

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    Administration and Support Services 

    • Periodical, annual, pre-employment and exit medicals, monitor storage and availability of medical records for identification of health issues and provision of appropriate courses of treatment
    • Support Occupational Medical or Health Practitioner at Medical Station/Clinic

    Best Practice and Knowledge Management 

    • Maintain extensive internal/external professional networks
    • Assess and evaluate alignment of occupational and primary health services with best practice principles
    • Assist in development and implementation of a personal learning and growth plan to ensure continued development
    • Assess Health services and propose improvements where applicable
    • Provide inputs in establishment of an effective methodology of Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) business operations, communications and control whereby statutory compliance and appropriate mitigation of risk is achieved

    Business Performance and Operations

    • In collaboration with Occupational Hygienist, monitor employee exposure to hazardous substances and undertake statutory/ non-statutory health surveillance
    • Where required, report for standby duty and perform required emergency medical services and administer medicines
    • Ensure that Supplies are available and client demand can be met at clinics

    Compliance, Governance and Assurance 

    • Adhere to relevant SHE legislation, statutory requirements and company specific policies and procedures
    • Prepare reports regarding Company and legal requirements
    • Implement systems for effective management of health risks
    • Follow Occupational Health programmes/procedures

    Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management 

    • Assist in development of occupational and primary health services and processes for administrative, systems and record keeping
    • Assist in evaluation of discipline-specific standards, principles and practice to enable planning and implementing health programmes

    Effective People Management 

    • Manage Senior Occupational Nurse and Occupational Nurses' Key Performance Areas (KPA’s)
    • Proactively anticipate future occupational and primary health service requirements
    • Draft and implement strategies to optimise staffing and services
    • Motivate and inspire staff to excel at their jobs and strive for excellence
    • Ensure staff resources are efficiently deployed and staff members undertake appropriate training and development
    • Support, coach and mentor direct reports in skills/knowledge development to ensure they have necessary capabilities

    Financial Management 

    • Prepare a risk-based budget and control annual medical budget by forecasting operational costs, monitoring expenditure and cash flow
    • Allocate and monitor utilisation of financial resources and capital expenditure provided to medical SHE operations
    • Manage resources and assets effectively
    • Obtain approval of relevant contracts and documentation in line with Company Financial Governance and SHE budgetary stipulations
    • Identify opportunities and implement measures to reduce costs

    Internal Business Processes 

    • Assist and supervise the Senior Occupational Health Nurse in managing Occupational injuries, occupational and chronic diseases, and safe keeping of medical records in accordance with legislation
    • Report and investigate health and hygiene incidents
    • Implement Company Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) strategy and Tuberculosis (TB) programme
    • Contribute to the management of chronic diseases

    Safe and Healthy Work Environment 

    • Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable SHE policies procedures in line with set standards
    • Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations
    • Address all unsafe practices/potential hazardous situations, rectify/report to superior
    • Comply with SHE/technical requirements
    • Wear applicable Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) at all times

    Service Management 

    • Execute responsibilities in a manner that is in accordance to guidelines and standards associated with quality service delivery of SHE services
    • Deliver responsibilities in a manner that is aligned to services framework and consistent with customer agreements
    • Identify service performance improvement opportunities
    • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of reporting and statistics services to Company customers
    • Supervising of the treatment and monitoring of chronic diseases and the controlling thereof by supporting the Senior Occupational Health Nurse to control Chronic diseases
    • Supervising of the Implementation of HIV/AIDS strategy, TB programme and providing counselling in accordance to the DMR milestones
