    Chief Safety Officer

    Job Title : Chief Safety Officer
    Ref no : SHEQ/18/20

    Purpose Of The Job : To deliver quality work output in the day-to-day work activities, within the given boundaries of relevant policies, procedures andlegislation.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience: 

    • Grade 12 certificate;
    • Valid Blasting Certificate;
    • National Diploma in Safety Management will be advantageous;
    • B-Tech Degree in Safety Management will be advantageous;
    • Mine Overseer Certificate will be an advantage;
    • Valid driving license (Code 8);
    • (MS Office suite) Computer literacy for the role;
    • At least 5 years’ experience in the mining industry;
    • Recognized safety qualifications like COMSOC / SAMTRAC;
    • Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act;
    • Good verbal, written communication and presentation skills

     Job Responsibilities : 

    • Perform all Chief Safety Officer duties as specified in the
    • Minerals Act Regulations in terms of Schedule 4 of the Mine Health and Safety Act;
    • Ensure all legal compliance with regard to legal duties in
    • terms of Regulation 2.17.4 appointee of the MHSA;
    • Analyse and action of leading and lagging indicators;
    • Design, develop, implement, maintain and monitor health and safety improvement interventions;
    • Develop, implement, maintain and monitor adherence to health and safety standards and objectives;
    • Thorough investigate accidents/incidents, analyse and report statistics;
    • Conduct safety audits and inspections;
    • Responsible for Safety System implementation/integration;
    • Provide support and advice to line supervision regarding matters relating to health and safety;
    • Implement and maintain applicable Regulations, The Act, Codes of Practice and Standards;
    • Conduct benchmarking internally and externally to ensure adequacy of safety policies, practices and standards.

    Competencies and Requirements:

    • Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
    • Good verbal, written communication and presentation skills
