    Clinical Evidence Practitioner – Digital Systems (Medical Officer)

    • The Clinical Evidence Practitioner: Digital Systems will be responsible for strengthening and modernising the organisation’s
    • research workflows and knowledge management systems. In addition to contributing to high-quality clinical content development, the successful candidate will assist in the design and refine structured digital systems that replace manual processes with scalable, searchable, and efficient solutions.
    • The role sits at the intersection of clinical expertise, research methodology, digital systems design, and workflow optimisation, ensuring that clinical guidance is accurately structured and represented within digital platforms and knowledge systems.

    The successful candidate will work closely with software developers and Knowledge Translation teams to:

    • Translate clinical recommendations into structured, system-ready formats
    • Clarify clinical logic and workflow requirements
    • Review digital outputs for accuracy and usability
    • Support modularisation of clinical knowledge assets
    • The position provides clinical oversight and structured knowledge input into digital initiatives

    Qualifications:

    • Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent).
    • Active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

    Required Skills:

    • Strong evidence appraisal and synthesis skills
    • Experience working with clinical guidelines or decision-support tools
    • Excellent written communication
    • Ability to work collaboratively with developers and multidisciplinary teams
    • High attention to detail
    • Strong systems-thinking and digital innovation mindset.
    • An interest in using code to optimise workflows and open to training in this space.

    Experience:

    Essential:

    • Minimum of 3 years’ post-internship clinical experience.
    • Experience working in primary care, district hospital, or similar clinical setting
    • Familiarity with the use of clinical guidelines in practice
    • NPC Reg. No. 2024/333268/08 | Knowledge Translation Foundation NPC 2

    Advantageous:

    • Experience reviewing or summarising medical literature
    • Involvement in guideline updates, protocol development, or quality improvement initiatives
    • Exposure to digital health tools or structured clinical systems

    Key Responsibilities:

    Clinical Guideline Content Development and Curation

    • Research, design, and develop clinical guidelines and high-quality training materials that are evidence-based.
    • Review, maintain, and update clinical and training content to ensure alignment with current evidence and national policies.
    • Curate existing content to ensure relevance and applicability to healthcare professionals.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and up-to-date information.

    Structured Clinical Knowledge Development

    • Contribute to the development and updating of clinical guidance
    • Support modular structuring of knowledge assets
    • Ensure alignment with evidence methodology standands
    • Reviewing and synthesising scientific literature and policy documents.
    • Conduct rigorous evidence synthesis to inform content development.
    • Ensure clinical accuracy while enhancing usability through structured digital formats.
    • Support translation of research findings into practical tools suitable for diverse health systems.

    Digital Translation Support

    • Work with developers to translate clinical content into system-compatible formats
    • Clarify algorithms, workflows, and decision pathways
    • Participate in testing and refinement of digital features
    • stablish tagging, taxonomy, and metadata standards to optimise information retrieval.
    • Introduce automation for literature tracking, workflow management, and version control.
    • Evaluate and implement appropriate digital platforms and tools.
    • Develop standard operating procedures for research documentation and system use.

    Systems Implementation and Capacity Building

    • Support the team in adopting new digital systems and workflows.
    • Develop internal guidance documentation for system use.
    • Continuously assess and improve research processes for efficiency and scalability.
    • Identify opportunities to improve clarity, structure, and adaptability of knowledge assets
    • Support efficient integration of emerging evidence
