    Co-ordinator: Revenue

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    • The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university, rooted in the African continent with an increasing global reach.     • This post will report to the Director Business Development  Office.
    • We seek a person who thrives in a highly pressurised and purpose-driven environment.

    General Responsibilities

    • Design policies to support the Business Development objectives of the university
    • Implementation of the revenue activity policies including business processes
    • Assessment of feasibility studies of potential business opportunities
    • Reporting into governance structures and management teams
    • Drafting communications on revenue activity matters to the campus community, relevant internal and external stakeholders.
    • Receive, analyse and provide solutions to complex, contentious, anomalous revenue matters and/or projects.

    Specific Responsibilities

    Finance related

    • Diversification of revenue base – generate new income and enhancing existing income generation.
    • Design and implement finance policies and process frameworks relating to revenue activities.
    • Design management information dashboards reflecting key indicators including entity analysis.
    • Management of the revenue cycle and debtors function and process framework as it relates to revenue activities.
    • Provide training to revenue activities staff and stakeholders who deal with revenue activities.
    • Review of monthly receipts, payments and reconciliations.

    Property related

    • Property Management and Lease Management of university venues and properties, tenant enquiries and queries including, but not limited to, new leases and renewals, repairs, capex, and lease contract management.
    • Ensure compliance with appropriate property, body corporate and SARS legislation.
    • Responsible for development of new retail and student accommodation projects.
    • Participate on property structures (body corporates) and deal with property managing agents.  
    • Represent the university on various revenue activity project structures.

    New business opportunities/Entrepreneurship

    • Manage the formulation of entrepreneurship application processes, procedures and templates.
    • Implementing the new business opportunities in collaboration with the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (business plan reviews) and the Technology Transfer Office (intellectual property commercialisation opportunities).
    • Evaluation of business opportunities including, but not limited to, participation on the selection panel to evaluate business plans and presentations.
    • Manage due diligence processes into business opportunities.  

    Continuing Education courses

    • Responsible for revenue activities relating to Continuing Education (CE).

    Special projects

    • Manage financial aspects of special projects that address revenue generation or UWC financial stability.
    • Facilitate/broker business deals with proper closure and income distribution.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant degree (with Accounting subjects)
    • 3-5 years’ relevant work experience
    • Minimum of 3 (three) years’ experience in management of revenue generation and accounting for revenue.
    • A high proficiency in Excel for budget and financial modelling purposes.
    • Ability to communicate fluently in English language
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

    Added Advantages

    • Demonstrable professional and effective leadership, communication, organisational skills.
    • Experience working at an higher education institution and specifically working with leases, legal documentation, tenants, property administration and finance, debtors, customer relations, budgets, business development, special projects.
    • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Power Point, Visio)
