    Compliance Manager

    THE ROLE

    Key responsibilities

    • The Compliance Manager is a vital role within the Blenheim Chalcot portfolio and pivotal in supporting both our UK central compliance function and our local operations in South Africa as we expand our business.  The successful candidate will primarily be responsible to provide support to the local regulatory needs of any BC fintech businesses with a South African presence, together with supporting BC’S established fintech portfolio more broadly. We are looking for someone who can provide input on all aspects of regulatory compliance from day one, and as such, the successful candidate would need to have strong technical knowledge of financial regulatory regimes, in particular the UK/FCA and the SA/FSCA. A working knowledge of the FCA rules relating to the Investment Management sector would be advantageous.

    Specific duties

    Depending on the project, you will need to be comfortable doing the following:

    • Be a SME for local SA financial regulation.
    • Assist the BC Compliance Director to deliver the compliance Plan
    • Take direct ownership of the compliance function for smaller BC regulated businesses
    • Managing conduct risk assessments and other oversight activities
    • Final review on all regulatory business policies and procedures
    • Providing cover for the Compliance Director if they are unavailable.
    • Making improvements to enhance all aspects of Compliance
    • Work in a highly entrepreneurial environment, focusing on execution and ensuring plans come to fruition;
    • Consistently build strong relationships with stakeholders centrally and in the portfolio companies;
    • Develop and contracting relationships with other businesses; and
    • Lead and manage teams.

    • This role is an excellent platform for experienced professionals to take their career to the next level and an opportunity unlikely to be found anywhere else.  The Compliance Team at Blenheim Chalcot currently consists of two full time individuals, together with a part-time regulatory advisor to the portfolio.  We are looking to hire up to three additional people, across our BC central offices, including one in Cape Town.  We believe that this represents a tremendous opportunity for an experienced professional to increase their area of expertise, together with working with some of brightest business minds in the fintech industry. 

    ABOUT YOU

    • The ideal candidate will have a track-record in delivering results in a fast-moving business and hence be comfortable with change and uncertainty. Excellent stakeholder management experience is essential to being successful in this role.

    The Ideal Candidate

    • Strong knowledge of financial regulatory regimes including conduct risk, systems and controls and regulatory reporting.
    • Strong knowledge of local South African financial regulation.
    • Strong knowledge of Anti-money laundering legislation
    • You are highly process-driven and have a passion for creating effective systems
    • Show good initiative and the ability to identify solutions
    • You are highly organised with a great attention to detail
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Comfortable with dealing with senior stakeholders
    • You are curious to understand the wider context of what the business is doing and where the service is heading, you’ll enjoy learning and developing your skills
    • You have tenacity and stamina – you will see each project through to the end, using solid organisational skills and attention to detail to achieve the best possible result
    • Excellent stakeholder management.
    • Be able to operate at a range of levels – both in terms of big picture strategic thinking, thought leadership and getting into the data and analysis
