    Construction Manager

    Job Description

    • Working as a Construction Manager, you will manage and co-ordinate construction activities to ensure successful project execution

    Technical Responsibilities

    • Meet project objectives through effective application of engineering discipline resources
    • Ensure discipline strategy development during set-up to meet project deliverables
    • Offer general project support and problem solving on technical matters arising
    • Use knowledge of scope on current and recent projects to promote re-use of engineering where possible
    • Review key discipline documentation and drawings produced on projects
    • Assessment of people and non-people resource skills
    • Align and maintain approved resource matrix demand and capacity management
    • Evaluate project resource requirements and availability
    • Evaluate effective application of people and non-people resources
    • Assist lead engineers with generating discipline work scope & battery limits which fulfil all contractual and statutory requirements
    • Undertake any additional tasks that may be required by the Site Manger
    • Selection, appointment and management of resources including utilisation and recovery rate.
    • Review and ensure compliance with deadlines and costs of the Civil, Structural & Infrastructure Engineering activities.
    • To interact efficiently with Drawing Office and other departments
    • Guide and liaise with Drawing Office and provide engineering, safety and ergonomic input during conceptual layout phase and on-going assistance during engineering stage.
    • Ongoing review of internal circulation drawings and timeous approval of final drawings for construction
    • Providing continual engineering input to suppliers and sub- Contractors
    • Inter-departmental interaction
    • Understand and respond to needs of other disciplines
    • Adopt customer- orientated approach
    • Co-ordinate delivery of information

    Legislation Policies & Procedures

    • Adhere to Company specifications, guidelines and statutory codes of practice
    • Apply global SHE standards and ensure compliance
    • Regularly review and contribute towards improvement of procedures and systems
    • Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed in all daily activities
    • Participate in quality assurance audits
    • Systems and Procedures
    • Ensure adherence to the internal Project Management Operating System
    • Apply and review associated discipline Engineering Standards
    • Approve all drawing issued for construction by signing, dating and including the engineer/technologist’s professional registration number

    Skills / Knowledge Required

    • Project Management: Knowledge of basic project management methods and knowledge of all project life cycle phases
    • Civil & Structural Design Criteria: Applications and improvements of technical knowledge into design criteria that suit project requirements: And/or support the design of new components/equipment
    • Commercial Principles: Understanding of contract types and of their main features (basics, purchasing and selling conditions, partnerships, claims, logistic aspects etc.) including international contracts
    • Technical Documentation: Ability to create, understand and communicate technical specifications
    • Plant Layout development: Ability to layout the plant in a functional, safety, cost-effective way
    • Materials Fundamentals: Knowledge and understanding of basic information regarding materials and their properties used in engineering and manufacturing activities
    • Construction & Commissioning: Understanding of on-site construction work such as commissioning or customers and suppliers’ interactions
    • Civil/ Structure Investigation: Ability to evaluate failures, preventative maintenance and assessment

    Qualifications

    • Professionally, the successful candidate will be a B.Sc. / B.Eng or B.Tech graduate and will be registered as a professional engineer or technologist

    Experience

    • A proven track record of 8 years plus experience in engineering design and project management, within a processing or petrochemical plant projects environment, is required for this position
