    Control Geopgraphic Information Science (GISC) Technologist (Grade A) REF NO: 2024/98

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 12 Certificate and 3 to 4 years GISc or related Bachelor Degree
    • Minimum of 6 years post qualification GISc Technologist experience
    • Compulsory registration with South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) (previously known as PLATO) as a GISc Technologist or GISc Professional

    DUTIES:

    • Design, plan, and perform advanced GISc analysis to align with organizational strategic objectives
    • Undertake spatial modelling and facilitate collection and capturing of spatial data from various sources
    • Ensure metadata publication and coordinate the development of geospatial databases
    • Conduct data analysis and visualization to meet stated requirements
    • Manage and implement image processes and procedures
    • Maintain GIS unit effectiveness and support project operations
    • Develop and manage spatial information applications within organizational processes
    • Provide access to spatial information and GIS services to department clients
    • Develop GISc training materials for end-users
    • Ensure system interoperability for efficiency and publish data on web-based GISc platforms
    • Document GISc processes and manage stakeholder relationships
    • Implement knowledge-sharing initiatives such as short-term assignments and secondments
    • Monitor information exchange to ensure effective knowledge management
    • Provide GIS implementation support and participate in technical system audits
    • Conduct systems requirements analysis and participate in cost-benefit analysis exercises
    • Facilitate process model and workflow diagram development
    • Ensure GIS standards compliance and draft Terms of Reference for GIS projects
    • Manage and customize map production to meet client needs
    • Conduct research into GIS technologies, viability, and feasibility, and recommend solutions for spatial data challenges
    • Implement new GIS standards and develop innovative methods for spatial data problems

Regulation 67 (9) requires the executive authority to ensure that he or she is fully satisfied of the claims being made and these read with Regulations (57) (c) which requires the finalisation of Personnel Suitability Checks in order to verify claims and check the candidate for purpose of being fit and proper for employment.
