Cross Border Tax and Fiduciary Advisor (Pretoria)

    Description

    • The successful candidate will join Investec's Tax & Fiduciary Advisory team, a specialist, high-performance unit within Investec Private Bank and Investec Wealth & Investment International.
    • The team provides high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners with bespoke, intergenerational tax and estate planning solutions — both domestically and cross border.
    • The scope of work includes tax-efficient structuring, exchange control planning, global estate and succession strategies, and fiduciary advice. The team is a technical centre of excellence, known for simplifying complexity and delivering solutions that align with the personal, professional, and commercial interests of our clients.
    • The team works closely with Investec Private Bankers, Wealth Managers, and internal partners across the business as part of a private client strategy and the team is also well-connected to a network of top-tier external legal, tax, and fiduciary professionals.
    • This is a team for individuals who value excellence, curiosity, collaboration, and integrity. The culture is supportive, client-centric, and intellectually rigorous — with a focus on deep relationships, continuous learning, and creating long-term value. We pride ourselves on maintaining a consistent house view, peer-reviewed output, and a proactive, “sniper approach” to delivery.
    • If you are energised by meaningful client work, technical depth, and the opportunity to help shape industry-leading private client solutions, we encourage you to apply.

    Key responsibilities

    • As a Cross-Border Tax & Fiduciary Advisor, you will be responsible for drafting and delivering complex structuring mandates involving international tax, exchange control, and estate planning matters. You will play a key role in driving advisory outcomes, mentoring colleagues and ensuring high technical standards across the team's output.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Delivering bespoke, high-quality structuring advice involving domestic and cross-border tax, global estate planning, situs and probate, and exchange control considerations.
    • Preparing detailed advisory memorandums, tax opinions, and structuring proposals.
    • Overseeing the implementation of recommendations, including coordination with legal, fiduciary, and banking partners.
    • Providing technical mentorship and review support for team members.
    • Leading client engagements with HNW and UHNW individuals, families, family offices, and corporates.
    • Drafting and reviewing complex exchange control applications and liaising with SARB (via Authorised Dealers).
    • Liaising with the Technical Committee and contributing to internal technical training, toolkits, articles and newsletters.
    • Identifying structuring opportunities aligned with Investec's broader client strategy, including entrenching the client and relationship deepening.

    Experience, skills and capability

    • LLB, BAcc, BCom Law, Chartered Accountant or equivalent qualification.
    • Postgraduate diploma in tax or international tax law is essential. CFP® or STEP designation is advantageous.
    • Minimum 7 years' experience in tax advisory with demonstrable exposure to international private client work.
    • Proven ability to sign off complex tax advice and assume technical responsibility for structuring output.
    • Strong working knowledge of SA tax, global tax frameworks, exchange control, and fiduciary instruments.
    • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, multi-jurisdictional families, and/or family office structures.
    • Excellent drafting, research, and analytical skills.
    • Client-focused, with the ability to balance precision with practical execution.
    • Confident presenter and advisor, comfortable engaging with both clients and peers.
