    Data Privacy Officer

    Purpose of the Position

    • To provide consultative and direct support enabling the use of data and technology assets in a privacy principled and security-controlled manner.
    • To assist with creating and maintaining a Privacy Program that should not only be seen as a regulatory compliance framework but also as a core value for a business to have control over its data and to be able to leverage the data, while ensuring compliance to local and international laws

    Key Performance Objectives

    Operational Activities

    • Privacy Consulting and Organizational Planning:
      • Provide information, guidance, and support for the business and locally appointed Data Protection Officers within markets in the allocated portfolio related to data management, data use, and privacy inquiries alongside the Principal Specialist Data Privacy Office
      • Provide privacy reviews and considerations related to various business operations alongside the Principal Specialist Data Privacy Office
    • Advise the business on established best practices and work with them to align processes and frameworks with those best practices
    • Serve on multiple governance/architecture/cloud design/etc. boards and advocate for privacy-related considerations in support of best practices for data management and protection of personal information
    • Contribute to the development and updating of privacy policies, guidelines, frameworks and standards for the Group and markets noted within the allocated portfolio
    • Perform assessments of existing privacy procedures and technology use and inform customers and services owners of recommended improvements to these practices
    • Participate in incident/breach investigations and reporting for the Data Privacy Office
    • Assist with representing the IT Privacy and Security Offices in collaborative and strategic initiatives, applying expertise independently on projects and programs
    • Provide recommendations for continual process improvement across Privacy and Security workflows
    • Assist with the definition and implementation of a Data Privacy roadmap, partnering with relevant counterparts to ensure that strong privacy-by-design processes are built into our online video streaming services, worldwide, as well as in product offerings and systems
    • Assist with developing, and implement compliance strategies in close cooperation with Engineering, Architecture Legal teams, and other key stakeholders.
    • Ensure up to date data mapping (data inventory) and legitimate cross-border data transfers
    • Ensure third parties management through DPAs, including conducting audits on third parties processing personal information to ensure adherence to the obligations noted in the DPAs
    • Coordinate notification efforts of any privacy breaches with regulators and stakeholders along with other relevant MultiChoice personnel
    • Review and validate new releases of platforms before roll-out in the European and African regions
    • Conduct Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIA)
    • Assist with drafting internal policies and guidelines
    • Assist with data protection training sessions to enhance a data privacy friendly company culture
    • Respond to data subject’s rights requests in conjunction with the locally appointed Data Protection Officers, and Data Privacy Officers

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Law, information systems or related field
    • IAPP and/or ISACA certification is an advantage.

    Experience/Skills

    • Experience as an in-house Privacy Counsel, Privacy Specialist or Compliance Specialist of at least 1 year, preferably with large technological international operating company or professional working experience in a privacy or privacy related field
    • 3-5 years’ working experience
    • knowledge of media/SVOD legislation is an advantage
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to lobby for change
    • Sound knowledge of Data Protection Law (Including POPIA, GDPR, privacy, etc.)
    • Independent, responsible approach to work and willingness to find solutions
    • Excellent knowledge of the English language is mandatory
    • Critical and strategic thinking
