Data Science at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• A relevant tertiary qualification (honours or 4-year degree), preferably in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Quantitative Social Science or Engineering, or any relevant quantitative field
• At least 8 years’ relevant experience

We are looking for:

• A proven track record of leading impactful data science teams.
• Deep, hands-on expertise in machine learning, AI, statistical modelling, and experimental design.
• Proficiency of the open-source data science ecosystem.
• Experience in taking ML/AI models from concept to production (strong ML/AI Ops understanding).

Key Performance Areas

• Provide quality assurance and manage the team to contribute to:
• The collaboration of the data science section with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into analytic questions, designing appropriate approaches and solutions using data analytic and science methods.
• The data science section’s development, training and deployment of statistical, machine learning and AI models & data products using appropriate algorithms and techniques.
• The data science unit’s smooth and continued functioning of models & data products and oversee the Quality Assurance process of data products developed by the city data analytic & AI community
• The data science unit’s effective communication of technical findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, reports, and visualizations
