    Data Scientist

    Job Purpose:

    • rain is looking for experienced Full Stack Data Scientists to join our Data Science Team.
    • We know what that sounds like, but hear us out. Yes, we’re all full stack data scientists, but in reality, we have domains of expertise – some are better at data engineering, some better at telling stories with data, some better at machine learning while others are better at researching new techniques to solve problems and exploit opportunities. Our motto “We’re jack of all trades, master of some.” (source unknown).
    • At rain we have a flat structure, and value technical expertise as much, if not more than, leadership expertise. That being said, all our data scientists are leaders and grow this skill daily through interactions with business stakeholders.

    Key Requirements:

    What you will do:

    • SQL – lots of SQL.
    • Coding – lots of coding.
    • We own the analytics platform which is on AWS, and every member of the team becomes an owner and custodian of the platform.
    • Ingest, clean, and understand our data.
    • Think creatively about our data and provide guidance on what to build not just how to build.
    • Write, update, enhance and deploy ML algorithms to support rain’s business. In this process you are expected to research and figure out which technique to use in that situation. It sometimes includes evaluating new ML techniques to see if these are a good fit.
    • Build a deep understanding of the business and provide analytics to help with strategic direction and business actions.
    • Share best practices and learnings to the team.

     What you KNOW:

    • Have 3+ years working in a data science role.
    • SQL
    • A coding language e.g. R, Python.
    • Advantage: AWS knowledge.
    • How to build statistical machine learning models.
    • Advantage: A degree which includes some Mathematics or Statistics e.g. Mathematical Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Econometrics, Engineering, Biomedical Sciences.

     what you will SUPPORT:

    • Define and build dashboards and analyses that track KPIs, experiments and new initiatives.
    • Expose ML output via APIs or similar, to stakeholders to use.
    • Analyse and critique ML models of teammates to continuously improve our artefacts.

     what you WILL LEARN:

We are a team focused on curiosity, learning, and sharing knowledge (we like the “learn one, do one, teach one” philosophy of doctors). We believe you will grow your skills, both technical and soft, because of working with us. We also look forward to learning from you.

    • Here’s our main tech stack (we expect even if you’re familiar with everything on here you will take away some new skills): R, Python, AWS (main stack services: Athena, Lambda, Redshift, Sagemaker, Quicksight), Looker, building APIs, and Serverless Template.
    • Create or enhance your Telecommunications, geospatial and business knowledge.
