JOB PURPOSE:

Responsible for design, development and management of a data warehouse environment

Used for analytics and reporting.

Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for:

• Working closely with the Data Warehouse manager and his team, and internal customers Across the group to design and develop reports and analytics capability.
• Identify and resolve data issues through configuration of data cleansing and de-duplication software.
• Managing the database aspects of the reporting and analytics platform(s) to ensure That reporting jobs are successfully run and analytics data aligns to timeliness / Completeness requirements.
• Working with database administrators to ensure that the data warehouse is tuned for Optimal performance.
• Working with business analysts and project managers to develop and refine reporting And analytics requirements.

Key Performance Measures

• Strategic Alignment – Ensure that the physical designs for the data warehouse and Its data structures align with the groups IT strategies, architecture frameworks and logical data models.
• Data Documentation – Ensure that data flows configured internally within the data
• Warehouse are reflected in as-built documentation (data lineage diagrams) where 75% of new marts should have documentation available immediately on production
• Release and 100% of new marts should have documentation available.
• Communication - Ensure that all data warehouse issues are communicated across
• The data management team immediately after the issue occurs.
• Operations – 80% of causes of data warehouse job failures identified and resolution Achieved on same day.

Database Architect Job Duties:

• Determines database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, and programming; reviewing objectives with clients; evaluating current systems;
• Develops database solutions by designing proposed system; defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.
• Installs database systems by developing flowcharts; applying optimum access techniques; coordinating installation actions; documents actions.
• Maintains database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems; calculating optimum values for parameters; evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases; completing maintenance; answering user questions.
• Prepares users by conducting training.
• Provides database support by coding utilities, responding to user questions, and resolving problems.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Skills, knowledge, qualifications required for job

• A degree level qualification and/or equivalent experience in a relevant field
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• At least 5 years’ experience working on database technology used for business
• Intelligence and/or analytics
• At least 2 years’ experience administering a reporting database.
• At least 5 years’ experience working with structured query language including transact

SQL.

• Experience with analysing complex requirements.
• Experience in working with Agile and Scrum methodologies / environments.
• Experience in SSIS (BIDS/SSDT),SSRS,SSAS(Multidimensional Cubes and Tabular Model), SharePoint Excel Services
• Experience in creating / maintaining as-built documentation owned jointly across a Team.
• Ability to work well and deliver under pressure.
• At least Five years’ experience working as a database developers to ensure reporting
• Data sources are optimally tuned for reporting.
• Nice to have – Qlikview experience

• SQL Server 2008/2012/2014
• Advanced T-SQL with a thorough understanding of performance queries and how to use indexes, CTE’s
• Database design with solid understanding of the forms of normalisation
• SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
• Thorough understanding of various ETL patterns
• SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
• Exposure to drill through reports
• SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS – Tabular and Multi-dimensional)
• Solid foundation in multi-dimensional cubes
• Tabular models
• Data warehousing principles and concepts:
• Dimensional Modelling Methodologies: Kimball vs. Inmon
• Thorough understanding of:
• Data Lineage
• Metadata (Technical and Business)
• DW Documentation i.e. Data Dictionaries, Source-2-Target mapping etc.
• Master Data Management
• Data Quality Services

Experience:

Technical:

• Minimum 8 years of combined DBA/ETL/Dimensional modelling of which a minimum 3 years in dimensional modelling is needed
• Experience in building new data marts and not only maintaining existing ones.
• Industry: Insurance industry experience preferred
• Familiarity with concepts or exposure to the following processes: valuation, underwriting, policy life cycle.

• MCITP: SQL Server

• MCTS: DBA / BI / SQL Dev

• MCSA SQL Server

• MCSE Data platform

• MCSE Business Intelligence
