    Database Administrator - DB2 SysProg

    DB2 SysProg

    • Database Administrator with data security and disaster recovery experience to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives.
    • Manages physical databases on the specific database technologies.
    • Designs and implements back-up, recovery, archiving, and conversion strategies.
    • Manages and maintains data definitions in all production and non-production databases and replication servers.
    • Manages the database distribution, security, and access requirements.
    • Designs and develops logical and physical layers of databases. Handles testing, reporting, back-up, and restores.
    • Provides technical assistance and mentoring to staff for developing conceptual and logical database design and the physical database.
    • Recommends, installs, and maintains database software.
    • Monitors performance and performs database training and assists application developers with train tuning efforts .SMPE Knowledge where applicable.
    • Design, monitor, and tune large/high volume DB2 z/OS applications to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives.
    • Logical and physical database design, support distributed access, back-up, recovery, reorg, archiving, data conversion, data security, database and application training, support testing efforts and recommend and support database software.
    • Experience with tools, facilities and techniques for managing and administering data.
    • Installation, upgrade and PTF application of DB2 base and related products
    • Do research regarding end of service dates for products in the support portfolio
    • Do research regarding PTFS
    • Plan upgrades taking inter product dependency into consideration
    • Do upgrades of products when required
    • Backup and recovery of DB2 catalog and directory
    • Design, document and maintain backup and recovery strategy
    • Implement strategy using scheduler and automation tools
    • Running of housekeeping on DB2 catalog and directory
    • Design, document and maintain backup and recovery strategy
    • Implement strategy using scheduler and automation tools
    • Performance tuning of the DB2 system components
    • Create and document performance tuning strategy
    • Implement strategy using scheduler and automation
    • Suggest and implement solutions to identified performance issues
    • Capacity planning for the DB2 system components
    • Monitoring of various DB2 system components
    • Design and implement disaster recovery procedures for DB2 system components
    • Set up DB2 DR Procedures when required
    • Take part in the DR exercise;
    • Ensure operational availability of DB2 systems in accordance to the SLA
    • Design and implement daily checks and exception notification using scheduler and automation
    • Maintain DDF connections
    • Problem resolution during abnormal termination of DB2
    • Ensure DB2 adhere to agreed installation and security protocols
    • Run quarterly security checks
    • Implement remedial actions

    • The workings of DB2 z/OS components such as the MSTR, DBM1, DIST and IRLM

    • The installation and upgrade steps for DB2 as described in the DB2 installations guide
    • How to use the DSNTINST clist
    • Generating DB2 ZPARMS
    • Have a good knowledge of the following IBM products
    • DB2 Admin tool
    • DB2 automation tool
    • VSAM and ICF catalogs
    • OF SMP/E concepts and features

    Required Technical and Professional Expertise

    • Degree in Engineering, MBA Computer Science or similar
