Database Administrator (SQL) at City of Tshwane

Job purpose

• To install, configure, administer, monitor and secure enterprise database environments in order to ensure high availability, performance, integrity and security of organisational data

Appointment requirements

• An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or any ICT-related study field
• The following knowledge will be an added advantage: Strong knowledge of SQL Server installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting and experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
• At least three years’ experience in administering Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent enterprise database platforms
• A valid Code B driving licence
• Computer literacy
• Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

• Administer, maintain and optimise SQL Server database environments to ensure secure, reliable and efficient database operations
• Monitor, maintain and optimise database performance, availability and capacity to ensure uninterrupted and efficient database services
• Implement and maintain database security, backup, recovery and high availability solutions to protect organisational data and support business continuity
• Ensure compliance with database governance standards, support application integration and drive continuous improvement of database technologies and processes
