    Digital Communications and Social Media Consultant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The selected candidate will apply her/his skills in the field of communications to support the activities of UNIC Pretoria. The incumbent will assist the office in implementing its communications strategy particularly on social media platform, including training UNIC personnel, particularly the IT staff member, to improve their social media skills. The incumbent will report to UNIC Director.

    Specifically, the consultant will be responsible for the following activities:

    • Providing assistance and training to UNIC on the use of communication equipment such as photo cameras, video cameras and related equipment in producing multimedia content.
    • Providing assistance and training to UNIC on the most effective way of optimizing the use of content on social media platforms.
    • Conceptualizing and creating original multimedia content for UN communications campaigns within the South African context. This includes planning, sourcing, and editing content, such as videos, photos for all UN South Africa social media platforms.
    • Updating the UNCT social media platforms regularly with, among others, platform-specific content from UNIC and UN agencies based in South Africa.
    • Compiling and editing articles that are sourced from various UN agencies for publication in the InFocus magazine.
    • Representing and participating in the inter-agency working group on social media and providing feedback.
    • Participating in the UN Communications Group activities as well as performing functions related to UNCG social media platforms.
    • Attending designated meetings to get ideas or content for social media platforms, provide feedback and assist with related communications support as required.
    • Assisting with research and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Education: Applicants should be in possession of a university degree or similar qualification in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field.
    • Experience: A minimum of three years of work experience on communications particularly on conducting outreach campaigns using social media is required. Knowledge or experience in running such campaigns for the United Nations is an added advantage.
