Director of Marketing- The Cape Town Edition (Pre-Opening)
The Director of Marketing is responsible for the development, execution, and optimisation of all marketing strategies that support the property’s revenue, positioning, and brand objectives.
Partnering closely with the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, General Manager, and Commercial leadership team, this role leads integrated marketing initiatives across digital, partnerships, communications, and demand generation. The Director of Marketing ensures brand integrity, drives topline performance, and translates insights into impactful, measurable campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Planning
Develop and execute the annual marketing strategy and budget in alignment with hotel business priorities
Partner with the VP of Sales & Marketing and Revenue Management to deliver integrated, cross‑functional topline strategies
Lead repositioning and brand pull‑through initiatives in partnership with Area and Regional teams
Act as brand guardian, ensuring all marketing communications reflect EDITION brand voice and standards
Reconcile marketing spend monthly in partnership with Finance to ensure forecast accuracy and ROI
Digital Marketing & Demand Generation
Own and execute the digital marketing strategy across the hotel website, third‑party platforms, and social media channels
Develop and manage SEO strategy in collaboration with Marriott Digital Services or external agencies
Oversee OTA marketing strategy and media investments in partnership with Revenue Management
Drive direct and group lead generation initiatives aligned with commercial objectives
Ensure up‑to‑date, compelling visual and content assets through owned photoshoots and asset development
Campaign Performance & Analytics
Oversee execution of all marketing campaigns, initiatives, and collateral to maximise revenue impact
Analyse campaign performance, digital trends, and market insights to inform ongoing optimisation
Prepare and present clear, data‑driven marketing performance updates to the General Manager, commercial leaders, and Ownership
Adjust strategies swiftly based on performance, market shifts, and emerging opportunities
Communications, PR & Partnerships
Develop and lead the Public Relations strategy, including key messages, pitch angles, and target audiences
Manage PR agencies or oversee direct PR activity where applicable
Identify and activate incremental marketing opportunities through partnerships, third‑party platforms, and destination organisations
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, media partners, and regional marketing teams
People Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and develop the property marketing team to deliver high‑impact results
Recruit, onboard, and performance‑manage marketing associates
Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and support career development
Address employee relations matters in line with company policies and procedures
Candidate Profile
Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
Experience in hospitality marketing, sales, or a comparable commercial environment; luxury or lifestyle experience preferred
Proven ability to lead integrated marketing strategies that drive revenue and brand positioning
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing external partners or agencies
