    Driver

    Position Summary

    • The Technical Support Services (TSS) Activity helps USAID/Southern Africa and Regional Health Office (RHO) to address technical priorities and develop creative, innovative solutions to strategically allocate resources, strengthen connections with partners, and replicate best practices and effective program models. Through the TSS contract, Panagora Group augments capacity by providing technical, operational, and administrative support to USAID’s largest health portfolio. TSS deploys advisors in response to USAID requests for priority work with government stakeholders, implementing partners, and other entities. TSS supports Health Office staff and teams to integrate creative solutions into routine work. TSS also provides international and local expertise for surge support, as needed, for USAID Program Cycle requirements, planning, development, outreach, communications, and Health Office human resource functions.  
    • Panagora South Africa activity staff, USAID staff, subcontractors, and independent contractors require travel to near and distant locations in South Africa to conduct site visits, evaluation assessments, research, partner meetings, and other activities. The driver will support the TSS Activity transportation needs. 
    • The driver will be assigned to one project vehicle to transport activity staff, contractors, and partners. They will be responsible for the safety of passengers, maintenance, and compliance with Panagora’s vehicle use policies and procedures. 

     Primary Responsibilities

    The employee will be responsible for the following: 

    • Operate the activity vehicles safely and efficiently.  Follow all rules and procedures for vehicle use and fleet management, including detailed record-keeping. 
    • Support the maintenance schedule as directed by the Project Assistant Fleet Manager and Logistics. 
    • Prepare regular fleet management reports and maintain accurate recording and monitoring of vehicle logbooks and usage.
    • Liaise with the Project Assistant Fleet Manager and Logistics to ensure that all repairs and maintenance checks and services are conducted timeously by the designated service providers and registered vehicle agents. 
    • Implement and maintain vehicle and passenger security and safety procedures and systems 
    • Be a reliable and proactive team member, creative problem-solving and maintaining strong communications with the entire operations team. 
    • Keep an accurate monthly fuel consumption record and assist the Finance Team with relevant reconciliations. 
    • Abide by local traffic laws (speed limits, etc.) and Panagora policies and procedures. 
    • Ensure all passengers fasten their seat belts and pay appropriate attention to passenger safety throughout all trips. 
    • Ensure that Panagora vehicles are in a clean state and in good running condition on an ongoing basis. 
    • Support with reception duties and assist the events team when not on driving duty. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

    In addition to the responsibilities described above, the employee may be assigned additional responsibilities to support overall TSS objectives.

    Requirements

    • Minimum qualification: Matric certificate 
    • Minimum five years of relevant experience, preferably with USG-funded projects 
    • Driver’s License (Code B or higher) and with a clean driving record 
    • Current Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) 
    • Clean criminal record 
    • Computer and smartphone literacy required, and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite/Google suite preferred 
    • Demonstrated safe driving experience in client-facing settings. 
    • General knowledge of and experience with vehicle maintenance 
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is required.
