Electrical Inspector at eThekwini Municipality

Special Conditions:

• 40hrs-5 day a week
• Incumbents must be prepared to work overtime when required to meet the exigencies of the service.
• Protective Clothing: As per PPE Schedule
• Must be a competent person in terms of the Service Unit's Safety Rules or be able to become so within 6 months of date of appointment.

Job Purpose:

• To inspect electricity reticulations and voltages up to and including 11KV and the specification of maintenance thereof.

Key Responsibility Areas:

• Responsible for the inspection of overhead lines, substations, underground mains ancillary
• equipment and street lighting.
• Issuing an instruction to repair notices and specifying the period of the maintenance and repair work required.
• Investigation of system faults to ascertain the cause of faults up to 11kv prior to the restoration of supply.
• Inspecting and scheduling of pole testing.
• Ordering of materials by using related software packages to order material and generate
• requisitions to ensure that minor maintenance and repair work is carried out.
• Utilising specialised testing equipment for fault identification.
• Testing of earth fault indicators by using approved testing equipment.
• Responsible for undertaking Auto recloser readings.

Essential Requirements:

• Trade Tested Artisan (Electrician).
• In possession of a NTC2 or NCV3 in Electrical Engineering from a Further Education and
• Training College registered with the Department of Education.
• Authorised for 11kV switching with no restrictions.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• Valid First Aid Certificate or be trained within 6 months from date of appointment.
• Must be authorised in terms of Ethekwini Electricity's System Operating Regulations to operate on medium voltage systems up to and including 11 kV or be in a position to become authorised within 9 months of appointment if required to undertake switching operations.
• 3-years relevant experience in maintenance and or construction of electrical reticulation at 11kV and below
