    Employee Relations Officer

    Job Description:

    As our Employee Relations Officeryour responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    Safety, Health, and Environment

    • Promote a safety-first culture by encouraging open reporting of unsafe behaviours.
    • Identify and manage workplace risks through operational risk management and monitoring controls.
    • Maintain effective Safety and Health systems by conducting inspections and coaching.
    • Collect safety data for reports, escalate deficiencies, and participate in audits for compliance.
    • Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions

    Performance and Delivery:

    • Assist in guiding stakeholders on employee relations matters, ensuring alignment with Labour Legislation and company policies.
    • Support the administration of disciplinary cases and disputes by following predefined procedures and the mine’s relationship framework.
    • Guideline managers and P&O teams on basic policy interpretation, procedural steps, and labour law requirements.
    • Assist in maintaining positive relations with trade unions by maintaining communication, documenting discussions, and escalating complex issues.
    • Support training initiatives for supervisors on handling straightforward disciplinary matters, emphasising procedural fairness.
    • Maintain equitable treatment of diverse union groups by adhering to established negotiation protocols and escalating discrepancies.
    • Monitor compliance with agreements and legislation, flagging non-compliance or breaches to senior staff.
    • Maintain accurate records of employee relations activities (e.g., grievances, consultations) for reporting and audit purposes.
    • Compile fundamental employee relations data (e.g., dispute frequency, resolution timelines) to assist in trend analysis.
    • Execute predefined labour relations plans and policies under supervision, ensuring alignment with operational needs.
    • Support stakeholder engagement by scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and documenting outcomes.
    • Participate in consultation forums as required, taking notes and communicating key points to relevant teams.
    • Escalate complex employee relations issues to senior advisors or management for resolution.
    • Stay updated on employment practices and legislative changes, sharing updates with the team for proactive adaptation.

    This role is in People & Organisation (P&O) NC on a band 7 level (C4) reporting to Section Manager Employee Relations Sishen & Kolomela

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12
    • National Diploma in Labour Law / Industrial Relations / HRM (NQF6)
    • SA Driver’s License

    Technical Knowledge

    • 3-5 years of experience in employee relations advisory capacity in a mining environment.
    • Knowledge of relevant labour laws, collective bargaining processes, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
    • Familiarity with the principles and strategies of union negotiations, including grievance handling and labour dispute management.
    • Understanding company policies, procedures, and frameworks related to employee relations, including disciplinary codes and conflict resolution protocols.
    • Awareness of health and safety regulations and their impact on employee relations.
    • Knowledge of collective agreements, employment contracts, and employee rights, with the ability to interpret and provide guidance on legal terms and conditions.
