    Engineer - Enterprise System Monitoring Technology Information

    Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)
    Key Tasks: Indicates those KPA’s that are essential to the position itself. These are normally specific to the incumbent, the job, and the function. Excludes role and leadership / management.

    • Responsible for the overall coordination of the ESM Team and for liaison between the different IS Operational support teams. 
    • Coordinating team activities and ensuring efficient implementation of all tasks.
    • Responsible for preparation and submission of reports, including ensuring the quality and completeness of reports.
    • Assist with the design of the monitoring systems
    • Implement the indicators for monitoring and assessing the quality of outputs and activities
    • Manage the MTN SA IS Ticket Logging System/s
    • Manage the MTN SA Enterprise Systems Monitoring Infrastructure and Applications

    Role Dependencies:  

    • Does not refer to the various “roles” that the incumbent has to assume in the conducting of the duties. Instead, this
    • would be additional complexity that should not be inherent in this job, but the incumbent has responsibility for. 
    • Example HR Managers having to manage an IT function.
    • Participate in Technical Forums
    • Participate in Architecture workgroups.
    • Assist with the development of the I.S. strategy and Tactical plans.
    • Ensure the implementation of IS infrastructure design
    • Provide input to IS Infrastructure systems OPEX and CAPEX budgets
    • Planning and implementation of new sites in RSA and Africa

    • Liaise with BG’s, IS Groups, Level 3/4 Management, Vendors and Industry analysts
    • Increase productivity by optimized resources and systems

    • Refers to the latent difficulties, or things that could potentially go wrong that affect a specific position. Such vulnerabilities may / may not be under the control of the incumbent. Direct implication or first level of impact.
    • System interdependencies e.g.: Applications, Network, Enterprise servers, etc.
    • External service provider support as well as operational dependencies
    • Operating on live systems where a mistake could result in severe financial impact to the company within an extremely short time
    • Control and manage down variable operation costs

    Collaboration:  Refers to formal and informal relationships
    Responsibility towards:

    • Matrix reports: Influence and work with senior technical professionals in developing infrastructure design and strategies. May lead cross functional and divisional teams.
    • Key customers : All functions within the IS division and shared technical support areas within the business.
    • Key suppliers : Supplier representatives from key vendors to handle technical specifications.
    • Other Relations – IBM.
    • Discretionary Space: The degree to which individuals are allowed to exercise independent thought and judgement.
    • Independent thought and Judgment: Relates to the decision-making constraints place upon a position or conversely, the degree of Freedom in decision-making.
    • Can make recommendations to changes due for the working environment that will have a positive effect on systems availability, performance and customer satisfaction.
    • Authorities:  Financial and other decision making authorities, e.g. engaging contracts with suppliers.

    Responsibilities
    Minimum Requirements  - minimum necessary, and not the ideal / preferred should be included.

    • Global Education Standards (10)
    • Matric 
    • Minimum 3 year degree/diploma (IS qualification)
    • CA Certification / MCSE
    • Fluent in English

    Global Experience Standards (10)

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with, managing and troubleshooting ; with experience in supervising others
    • Large scale enterprise monitoring environments spread globally
    • Midrange and Enterprise Server hardware and software monitoring
    • Midrange and Enterprise Storage hardware and software monitoring 
    • Very good experience working with systems monitoring procedures and preparing monitoring operating procedures relating to Enterprise Systems Monitoring.
    • At least 6 years’ experience in system administration on the CA Unicenter Platform
    • Experience with deploying and managing Windows, Linux, Unix Operating Systems and Applications
    • Experience working in a medium  organization
