    Engineer Plant

    Job Advert Summary    

    • The Plant Engineer is responsible for ensuring adherence to the regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act and or the Occupational Health and safety Act on plants, as well as being responsible for the management of maintenance activities regarding fixed and mobile plant assets.
    • The Plant Engineer shall also be appointed under the relevant regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) or the relevant regulations of the OSH Act.

    Minimum Requirements    
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • National Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 6)
    • BEng (Mechanical, Electrical), BSc Engineering or equivalent engineering degree (NQF Level 8)
    • GCC (Mines and Works or Factories)

    IDEAL:

    • Management Development Programme (MDP) would be advantageous

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

    • 2- 3 years of relevant plant engineering or similar experience (post-GCC) in a mining or factory environment
    • 2 - 3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of processing plant equipment in a mining environment

    IDEAL:

    • Experience working within cement or heavy industry is advantageous
    • Experience working in a production environment is advantageous

    Duties and Responsibilities    
    MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Engineering Operations

    • Ensure a safe and Healthy working environment for all employees on site.
    • Root Cause Analysis, and resolution.
    • Assist Engineering Manager/Plant Manager with Cost and CAPEX planning and management.
    • Create follow-on work arising out of inspections to ensure any deviations are corrected, and report to management on any critical deviations
    • Design, implement, maintain, or improve equipment, facilities, or systems for the plant.
    • Log all non-conformances in the ISOMetrix system
    • Manage and enforce plant compliance to relevant legislation.
    • Manage asset care plans on machinery and equipment
    • Operate computer-assisted maintenance software to perform engineering tasks
    • Participate in special projects in optimisation and expansion as required
    • Perform inspections in accordance with Legal requirements and PPC standards.
    • Provide guidance to technical teams on technical planning, costs, requirements, design, safety design aspects and quality regarding scheduled maintenance shutdowns
    • Provide statutory reporting to relevant authorities.
    • Develop and lead a culture of identifying and resolving root causes of asset underperformance.
    • Implement maintenance tactics to optimize overall equipment effectiveness
    • Maintain conformance of plant and practices to engineering minimum standards and change management

    Stakeholder Management and Business Partnerships

    • Ensure healthy, value adding interaction and co-operation between Engineering, Production, Quality, Process and Safety departments.
    • Attend the scheduled planning meeting between the Technical Advisor: Planning, Engineering Foreman, and Production Foreman
    • Chair disciplinary hearings
    • Chair incident investigations
    • Participate in monthly engineering safety meetings with SHE representatives
    • Participate in stakeholder meetings with governing and professional bodies as well as local communities
    • Present root cause analysis reports to the Engineering Manager

    People Management

    • Manage the performance of direct reports and monitor adherence to expected standards.
    • Offer guidance and support and if required take appropriate disciplinary action
    • Coach and train team members to perform optimally in their roles
    • Provide direct reports with opportunities for growth and development through on-the-job training and feedback
    • Participate in the selection and appointment of new team members
    • Support the onboarding of new team members
    • Conduct regular meetings and promote open and ongoing communication with the team
    • Approve the leave of direct reports and manage overtime where applicable

    Budget Management

    • Manage the ordinary maintenance and special maintenance budgets
    • Approve expenditure within delegation of authority level
    • Monitor expenditure against approved budget, reporting on any deviations
