    Engineer: Process Safety

    About The Role

    We are looking for an Engineer Process Safety to lead efforts to strengthen the group wide approach to the identification, analysis and control of process safety risks. The role has a responsibility for the implementation of the RBM process safety management programme. The role will also provide specialist support in terms of operational process safety management. The fatality and multiple fatality risks can potentially have significant impact on shareholder value, through productivity, external stakeholder relationships and Rio Tinto reputation.

    Reporting to the Manager Process Safety, you will

    • Implement RBM process safety programme designed to identify, analyse and control process safety risks
    • Provide leadership, direction and advice to line leaders to mitigate process safety risks (eg. Occupied Buildings)
    • Provision of guidance, tools and metrics to support process safety
    • Provide technical expertise to plants
    • Support the building of a RBM wide process safety management culture
    • Lead efforts to strengthen capabilities in process safety, including training, coaching and mentoring
    • Promote the sharing of leading practice from both within and externally to Rio Tinto
    • Represent RBM externally to ensure our industry leadership and profile is maintained by
    • Attending and presenting at external forums as required
    • Developing an effective network within the industry and broader safety community.
    • Lead multidisciplinary teams, for project assignments
    • Lead networks and working groups
    • Advise the manager process safety on performance gaps and issues in the plants
    • Access to peers and external safety / risk professionals

    To ensure the quality of safety risk analysis and management meets Rio Tinto standards

    About You
    To succeed in this role, you will have

    • Degree in Chemical / Metallurgical Engineering,
    • EB License,
    • 3 years’ experience in mining and/or mineral processing
    • Experience in process safety management at an operational level would be highly regarded
    • An advanced understanding of process safety risk management
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching / mentoring leaders and safety / risk professionals
