Engineering Technologist (Production Level):4 posts available, Ref No. DOI 57/2023 at Western Cape Government

Job Purpose    

• The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has opportunities for four (4) suitably qualified and competent Engineering Technologists to provide technical advice and support by applying engineering principles and techniques to address engineering challenges for Road Systems. The successful incumbents will be required to deliver, oversee and assist in quality assurance of system, data gathering/ capturing and other system operational tasks for the provincial road network. These posts are stationed in Cape Town, CBD.

Minimum Requirements    

• Bachelor of Technology in Engineering (B Tech) or relevant qualification;
• A minimum of 3 years post qualification Engineering Technologist experience required;
• A valid code B driving licence; Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technologist or have submitted with ECSA for professional registration as a Professional Engineering Technologist (proof of payment to be submitted with application is required)
• Note: Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technologist must be obtained within 6 months from appointment.

Recommendation    

• Public Sector experience focusing on Roads;
• Applicable experience in transport infrastructure, road/bridge/ culvert construction and/or maintenance experience of surface and gravel roads; Experience in asset management and/or data collection processes of roads infrastructure;
• Exposure to project management, budget and financial management of engineering projects;
• Exposure to IT systems and the development of systems for engineering applications;
• Further studies or formal courses;
• Experience and good command across various engineering design stages for multidiscipline projects.

•  Provide technological advisory services:-Support Engineers,
• Technicians and associates in field, workshop and office activities;
• Promote safety standards in line with statutory and regulatory requirements;
• Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology;

• Compile and submit monthly and quarterly reports; Provide inputs to the operational plan; and Develop, implement and maintain databases;

• Research/literature studies on technical engineering technology to improve expertise;
• To liaise with relevant boards/councils on engineering-related matters.
