Engineering Test Technician - Somerset West at Helderberg Personnel

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

• The Engineering Test Technician will test engineering prototypes, including data acquisition and processing of production batteries.
• Integrating systems including AC/DC high and low voltages, structural components, and firmware.
• Provide careful, detail-oriented documentation during tests, and inspections.
• Communicate technical questions and findings in a concise and descriptive manner
• Prepare and monitor the test programs for high-voltage batteries on the test bench
• Follow test programs for high-voltage battery systems based on standard regulation set out by the company
• Collaborate with engineering teams and production managers to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
• Wiring of line replaceable items
• Assembly at system level and integration at system level
• Assist in fault finding
• General engineering assistance when technical assembly skills are required
• Assist in training and supervision of learner technicians
• Install, maintain, repair, test and commission electrical equipment.
• Factory acceptance testing on the production line off the High Voltage battery range
• Creating documentation for test procedures and test results for the above-mentioned products
• On site commissioning and repairing off the above-mentioned products
• Assisting with the development and testing of new products which may include working on SMD component level with measuring instruments such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes

Requirements include:

• Electrical trade / Wiremans license (for South Africa) / Electrical Engineering (BTech / MTech)
• 3-5 years’ relevant experience
• Experience of a manufacturing environment
• 3 Phase alternating current
• Electrical production line (High voltage advantages)
• Knowledge in General electronics, Lithium cells and Mechanical

Skills and Abilities required: 

• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude – Practice disassembly and reassembly of electromechanical systems without instructions
• Experience with standard electronics lab tools including AC/DC meters, data acquisition, AC/DC power supplies
• Experience making wiring harnesses by way of soldering, crimping, following wiring diagrams etc.
• Strong understanding of physics and engineering fundamentals
• Methodical and diligent, works with a strong sense of quality and craft
