St Peter’s College seeks to fill the position of Executive Head, reporting directly to the School Council. The role grants full operational authority and control, requiring someone who takes ownership, shows commitment, is solution-orientated and works independently.
A forward-thinking and agile leader with vision, who will innovate and ensure that the School and its offerings are fit for the new world is needed.
The ideal candidate will be a culture fit with the School's Anglican ethos, demonstrating warmth and passion to build connections and inspire both students and teachers.
This leader must be able to relate to and collaborate with Council members, parents, students and other stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, showing enthusiasm and involvement in all aspects of the School. A customer-centric approach to service and quality is essential.
The position demands someone with the credentials and gravitas to command the respect of the School community, local society and other educational peers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and take control of the full management of the School, including academic, co-curricular, pastoral and business support activities
Develop, implement and take overall executive responsibility of the School’s strategic plan
Monitor and take overall executive responsibility for the School budget and financial progress
Monitor and drive performance, discipline and control in the School
Lead the effective performance management and professional development of School employees
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment
Drive admissions and retention at the School
Act as official spokesperson for the School
Ensure that the School is competitive and held in high esteem amongst its peers
Report and communicate effectively to the School Council, parents and other stakeholders
Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Anglican Diocese of Johannesburg, the Anglican Board of Education as well as St Peter’s Prep Schools
Enable effective governance at the School through following policies and due process; and implementing adequate supporting administrative processes.
Minimum Requirements
Appropriate qualification in Education, preferably at a post graduate level
SACE registered
At least 10 years’ experience in education, with at least 5 of those years in a senior leadership role
Track record of successful independent school leadership (head or deputy) in co-educational high school environment in South Africa preferable
Demonstrable track record across all aspects of running an independent school (including commercial aspects)
Experience in working effectively with a School Board/Council/governance structure, with a clear understanding that the role reports to and is accountable to the Council.
Proficient in people management with the ability to delegate effectively and encourage growth and development of staff
Assertive leader who drives high performance and holds individuals accountable
Comprehensive understanding of the Head's role as a Chief Executive, with the ability to implement approved strategy, prioritise effectively, and balance various demands
Working knowledge of School operations and good governance, including academic, sporting and cultural results, risk management, compliance, processes, controls and finances
Exceptional communication skills, with the presence and authority to serve as a compelling ambassador for the School
Strong interpersonal skills, capable of motivating and inspiring the School community to pursue excellence
Hands-on, proactive, and detail-oriented approach to completing tasks and driving progress
Strong knowledge of current educational practices, trends, rules, and guidelines
An awareness and appreciation of the unique challenges of privilege, especially in a South African context and navigating these with sensitivity and compassion
Highly organized with the ability to multi-task effectively
