Job Description:
As an Exploration Geologist – Database Management, you will provide Support Services as required and your responsibilities will include:
Capturing of primary borehole data generated by Exploration Geologists as well as Geotechnical Engineers on a frequency as required by the various disciplines in a manner which ensures the use of borehole geological logging and assay data in solids modelling and where applicable grade estimation as well as geotechnical logging and physical property test-work for geotechnical design input and analysis.
QA/QC validation of the borehole assay data as received from the relevant laboratories informing the Exploration Geology borehole databases according to the relevant Kumba Iron Ore QA/QC Pass fail criteria.
Validate all components of the Exploration Geology relational borehole databases as per the generic and site-specific Kumba Iron Ore borehole database validation protocol items.
Ensure the validation scripts are in place and kept up to date and are aligned with protocol requirements.
Keeping abreast of development and version enhancements made by external borehole database Vendor.
·Assist Kumba Iron Corporate Office Borehole Database Manager with development of production and exploration geology as well as geotechnical borehole databases to cater for business improvements etc. for example geometallurgical requirements.
Assist Specialist Resource Geology to ensure that the borehole database software licensing configuration at the site as at an optimum so as not to incur unnecessary expenditure. To be reviewed at least annually.
Assist the various database users with permissions and access rights and ensure the database lookup lists are current. Control security permissions and remove old users from the lists.

All spatial and related attribute graphical information data is captured in a GIS Database to assist the Specialist Exploration with exploration strategy and planning and tenure management.
This role is in the Exploration department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Specialist Exploration Geologist
Qualifications:
You will need the following Qualification:
B.Sc. Degree in Geology with programming certification with relevant borehole database management experience.
Full SACNASP membership
Valid Driver’s License
Experience:
At least 3 years’ experience in Production and/or Exploration and/or Resource Geology data management.
Programming skills will be beneficial.
