    External Communication Manager (Cape Town)

    Responsible for leading outward effective communication and media relations programs that promote key initiatives, increase awareness and develop an enviable corporate image and reputation. Nurture a strong industry network with media, influencers and thought leaders as a means of promoting the corporate brand and also the employer brand externally and act as the media spokesperson for PEP as and when required. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maximise presence of the external corporate brand on various channels (e.g. Internet, TV, social platforms )
    • Drive the implementation of the corporate communications and media relations programs across all audience segments
    • Oversee the successful delivery of all relevant activities related to the corporate communications plan
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media and influential professionals
    • Drive the implementation of the corporate PR strategy
    • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
    • Ensure the consistency of external corporate messaging across all touchpoints
    • Perform the role of company spokesperson as and when required 
    • Coordinate and collate information required for external stakeholders (e.g.Pepkor)
    • Manage and assist Exco with content for presentations and interviews with external parties
    • Work closely with the Head of Brand to manage the corporate brand and external brand reputation
    • Ensure that key external announcements, campaigns and initiatives are fully communicated across all relevant channels in a timely, creative and effective way
    • Organize PR events to increase the awareness of PEP and maintain the reputation of PEP
    • Build a resilient and responsive crisis communications plan
    • Manage and report on allocated budget
    • Track, influence and monitor media coverage (ROI) relating to the company brand

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

    • Bachelor's Degree in PR, Communications, Journalism or similar relevant field
    • Proven working experience in PR required; 8-10 years
    • Proven track record designing and executing successful PR campaigns 
    • Work experience with a listed company beneficial
    • Strong relationships with media contacts
    • Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews
    • Solid experience with social media channels especially Linkedin
    • Experience in crisis management
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills
    • Exceptional communication, presentation and leadership skills
