    Finance Manager (Bryanston)

    MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Accounting and Reporting

    • Completion of the monthly management accounts and timely submission for review by the 7th working day of the following month.
    • Review and provide guidance and coaching to accounting staff ensuring accuracy, correctness and completeness of transactions recorded
    • Timely submission of monthly reports to the Regional Finance Manager for review.

    Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting

    • Responsible for the compilation of the budget, circulation of the relevant budget sections to the finance team and ensuring that costs are correctly allocated to budgeted lines.
    • Review and monitor budget performance per department and discussing burn rates with HOD’s on a regular basis. Distribute the monthly budget vs actual reports to HOD’s. Any overspent lines (>15%) are investigated and reported accordingly in the forecast report.
    • Ensure that Donor allocations are correct and that spending is in line with donor agreements and the approved budget.
    • Ensure that Donor Reports are done according to donor’s timeframe in coordination with the Fundraising team to ensure donor compliance.

    Fixed Asset Management

    • Undertake an annual asset and equipment list physical verification to determine their location and condition and also ensuring that the Fixed Asset Register is kept up to date. A minimum of two asset counts need to be conducted during the year. Ensure that key assets are insured.

    Internal Control Environment

    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls and processes

    Payroll

    • Sign off the monthly payroll by reviewing and checking the accuracy of amounts to be paid to the staff and ensuring that salaries are paid on time.
    • Uploading of the salary journal on Serenic.

    Audit

    • Plan and co-ordinate all financial audits, statutory and donor audits.
    • Ensure the closure and resolution of audit findings

    Statutory, Donor Trips and Aircraft management accounts

    • Ensuring CIPC and all other tax compliance – VAT, Income Tax, Annual Returns and Director Amendments.
    • Managing Donor trips and performing the monthly reconciliation of the Donor Trips.
    • Maintain aircraft management accounts and ensure that the aircraft fleet list is kept up to date, quarterly leasing charges are processed to the parks and recoveries are raised accurately.

    Banking

    • Weekly Bank Processing (Treasury, HO and DPO accounts)
    • Will be a board approved signatory and will be a reserve approver on local and offshore banks (other than the Group Treasury Accountant & CFO)

    Receivables and Other

    • Supervising the vendor process (including signing off on all monthly vendor recons)
    • Manage accounts receivable, overseeing invoicing and cash receipts.
    • Review all General Journals processed by the Accountant, Junior Accountant and Banking Administrator and sign off on these.
    • Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
    • Provide leadership and guidance in all matters pertaining to finance (including taxation and other financial issues) and give advice and support to all those needing it.

    Required qualifications, competencies and experience:

    • Bcom Degree in Accounting CA (SA)
    • 2 – 3 years post articles work experience preferably in a Finance Manager role.
    • Good IFRS and tax technical knowledge.
    • Experience with computerised accounting software (e.g SAP) – experience with Microsoft NAV an advantage
    • Good knowledge of excel and IT systems
    • Experience in leading a team of 2 or more direct reports.
    • Passion for conservation.
    • High attention to detail
    • Highly organised
    • Highly analytical
