    Finance Project Analyst - JHB

    We are looking for a motivated and eager candidate with an interest in programming and automation to aid the efficiency and improvement of the Zinc Copper Finance department processes.  

    As a Finance project Analyst, you will support the marketing and logistics finance team in Baar out of South Africa. 

    You will be responsible for: automation projects, process design and development, spreadsheet maintenance and data analysis with a keen interest in business process automation and improvement, with a mindset to drive efficiency and standardization, whilst enhancing controls.

    TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Drive efficiency gains across the Zinc Copper FinOps, Middle Office, Deal Validation and Trade Accounting teams through EUC automation.
    • Designing and developing solutions for existing processes.
    • Coding, testing, debugging on complex builds.
    • Integrate Excel-based tools to both pull and push data from / MS Access.
    • Maintenance and support for existing developed VBA applications, which include user forms and database interaction.
    • Implementation of version control and standardization of code and UI across VBA applications.
    • Building and maintaining strong internal relationships across multiple teams / departments including IT and the business.
    • Documenting code and procedures.

    This role will be based at our Melrose Arch offices, reporting to the Finance Manager.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A bachelor’s degree - preferably in an analytical discipline such us computer science/programming/accounting/finance or economics.
    • A master’s degree in any of these relevant disciplines would be advantageous.
    • Higher education courses specializing in VBA or SQL programming will be advantageous.

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • 3 - 5 years’ experience is preferred.
    • Programming knowledge, specifically VBA is essential.
    • Previous experience in Product Control or Finance is beneficial but not essential.

    Technical:

    • VBA: Proficiency in writing and debugging VBA code. This includes understanding of the object model of Excel and ability to create user-defined functions.
    • Advanced Excel Skills: Ability to use advanced Excel features such as pivot tables and advanced formulas.
    • Database Knowledge: Basic understanding of databases.  Familiarity with MS Access, and the ability to write basic SQL queries to manage and analyse large datasets is beneficial.
    • Data Analysis: Ability to work with large datasets and perform complex data manipulation and analysis.
    • Error Handling: Ability to implement error handling and data validation to ensure the integrity of the spreadsheets and applications.

    Finance Knowledge:

    • Knowledge in any of the below disciplines will be advantageous:
    • Accounting: Understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
    • Product Control: Insight into product control processes, including P&L reconciliation, price testing, and trade economics.

    Soft Skills:

    • Analytical: Ability to breakdown complex problems and devise effective solutions with logical steps.
    • Strong attention to detail.  
    • Communication Skills: Ability to simplify and convey complex problems succinctly whilst working collaboratively with other teams.
    • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, especially when dealing with tight deadlines in a Commodities Trading / Finance environment.
    • Willingness to learn: Willingness and desire to advance VBA skills to a developer level.

    Project Management:

    • Testing and Documentation: Ability to write documentation and procedures and to test code thoroughly to reduce bugs and improve robustness and maintainability.
    • Business Intelligence Tools: Experience with BI tools such as Power BI may also be advantageous.
    • MS Word and PowerPoint proficiency
