Fire Fighter: Kleinmond at Overstrand Local Municipality

Requirements

• Grade 12 or higher
• Firefighter 1 Course
• Hazmat Awareness
• First Aid level 3
• Physically and Mentally Fit
• Medical Test NFPA 1582
• Code C/C1/EC1/EC Drivers License
• No criminal record
• Communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages of the Western Cape
• 1-year operational experience

Key Performance Areas:

• Performs a variety of tasks associated with responding to and dealing with firefighting, emergency rescue service, rendering basic medical care, fire prevention and in service training activities, operating and maintaining firefighter equipment under appropriate supervision in order to protect the lives and property of the citizens of the municipality in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987)
• Execution of operational tasks under the instruction of supervisors and provide mentoring and guidance to more junior firefighters.
• Assume the responsibility as a single resource unit leader and supervise level 5 and 4 incidents

FIRE FIGHTING ACTITIVIES:

Conducting the following Wildland firefighting:

• Veld
• Bush & Grass
• Plantations
• Mountains

Fire and Life Safety Education and Preparation:

• Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duties to reduce incidents and severity of fires and providing a safer environment for firefighters and communities

Conduct maintenance functions:

• vehicles, equipment and at the fire station: Preparing for emergency incidents under command and control of assigned leader or officer.

Administrative functions:

• Performs basic administrative functions under guidance, mentorship and supervision of Seniors and officers in charge.

 Apparatus plant and machinery operations:

• Operates and drives a variety of vehicles, light and heavy driver machinery up to level of certification
