The King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality (KSD LM) is situated within the OR Tambo District Municipality (ORTDM) in the Eastern Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa. KSD LM is a Category B municipality covering an area of 3 027km². It is the large... read morest of the five municipalities in the district, accounting for a quarter of its geographical area.
The Municipality was formed before the Local Government elections in the year 2000 when the Mqanduli and Mthatha Transitional and Rural Councils were merged.
Since King Sabata Dalindyebo was regarded as a hero who fought for South Africa’s freedom and as a unifying force among the people of Mthatha and Mqanduli, the Municipality was named in his honour.
