    Foreman (Bulk Water Works)

    Job Description
    We are urgently seeking a Proactive, fit, healthy and computer literate young FOREMAN – that is a NQF3/4 certified Operator in Water & Waste Treatment – at least Class 3 or 4 Registered Process controller with the Department of Water & Sanitation – and with the ability to read operational manuals and other resources to apply knowledge for the effect, efficient and sustainable management, and operation for treatment plants.

    The position will report to the Operations Manager / Superintendent and will be required to co-ordinate tasks and activities associated with general maintenance and repair of the Bulk Water and or Bulk networks.

    SOME OF THE ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Assess the acceptability of procedures, systems and controls associated with vehicle, plant, equipment and material availability and utilisation
    • Inspect all Bulk Network maintenance requirements and report defects and structural failures
    • Execute tasks as described in the work plan aligned with the Operating and Maintenance Manual.
    • Plan and prioritise predictive maintenance programs and projects
    • Keep abreast of developments, emerging trends and latest technologies in the professions
    • Plan and prioritise predictive maintenance programs and projects.
    • Respond to urgent or unscheduled work requests
    • Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (OHS Act, 85 of 1993).
    • Routine inspection of manholes, storm water and water pipes and or storm water channels linked to the Bulk Works.
    • Adhere to Supply Chain Management procedures.
    • Coordinate & attend to procedural administrative requirements, record keeping and reporting deadlines associated with the functionality
    • Monitor, evaluate and maintain water quality ensuring the sustainable supply of safe drinking water
    • Adjust the purification processes when test results indicate that quality does not comply with the prescribed standards.
    • Take action and enforce regulations when nonconformity or breach of OSHACT and guidelines controlling the facility and machinery or safe work practices is concerned
    • Ensure that the treatment plant is operating for such period as to keep up with the demand and water quality requirements.
    • Ensure optimal chemical and electricity usage
    • Maintaining, cleaning buildings and equipment with cleaning materials.
    • Inspect and clean inlet manholes, screens and/or channels with hand tools.
    • Securing of that plant, equipment and materials to safeguard against theft and vandalism.
    • Monitor, maintain, record and upkeep of all plant and equipment registers.
    • Record, monitor and Interpret SCADA and control trends.
    • Maintain and safeguard PPE from damage and theft
    • Report Incidents as per procedure.
    • Conduct bench scale and lab testing according to procedure and quality standards.
    • Adjust plant HMI and PLC according to SOP & SWP
    • Assist with regulatory and contractual audits in fulfilling of license agreements
    • Manage, support and upkeep of PC Team dynamics.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:

    • Must have: NQF 3 or NQF 4 Operator Certificate in Water and Waste Treatment
    • Must have: PC level 3 with 10 years’ experience / PC level 4 with 3 years’ experience at a class C works or higher treatment plant
    • Must be: Registered at least as a Class 3 or 4 Process Controller with the Department of Water & Sanitation.
    • Must be able to read operational manuals and other resources to apply knowledge
    • Must have: Grade 12 plus maths and physical science
    • Must have: Drivers License
