Excavating/ backfilling trenches using handheld equipment (spades, picks) in accordance with pre-determined markings/ indicators. Cutting/ trimming lawns and verges using hand tools (shears, lashers) for the clearing of overgrown shrubs. Weeding, cleaning and shaping flower beds using handheld gardening tools.
Carry out all irrigation functions in the cemetery. Mopping floors and washing/ disinfecting ablution units, replacing items (toilet rolls) and checking and reporting defective items to the immediate superior for attention.
Assist digger loader with the extraction of steel boxes for new grave sites. Preparing graves and filling graves. Levelling grave sites for funerals. Remove water from grave sites with water pump. Adhere to Health and Safety regulations. Removing and washing off debris from tools and/ or vehicles using pressurized cleaning systems (handheld hoses).
Cleaning equipment (brush cutters, lawnmowers) using specific cleaning aids (brush) and replacing nylon cutting lines and/ or checking/ replacing fuel to specified levels. Placing and stacking tools/ equipment in designated storage area and/ or verbally reporting the condition/ status of tools/ equipment to the immediate superior.
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 8
6 weeks relevant experience
Proficient in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages in the Western Cape
