General Manager: Network Strategy and Architecture at MTN

Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

• The General Manager Network Strategy and Architecture is responsible to provide group wide leadership in all aspects of network strategy development, from roadmap creation, to delivery to the market. The role is responsible for the development, management and implementation of the MTN 5-year technology strategy and future fixed and mobile network state and architecture plan.

The General Manager: Network Strategy and Architecture will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

• Define overall department’s objectives, strategy and priorities, including building the team to deliver them
• Plan and manage department budget, capex and opex
• Provide leadership on network architecture, particularly to properly consider implications of Cloud, NaaS, Home Broadband and 5G introduction;
• Provide guidance and oversight for 20 OpCos during Annual business planning process
• Prepare periodic performance reviews of industry competitor benchmark to CTIO
• Lead all aspects of network strategy development, from roadmap creation, to delivery to the market.
• Develop the technology strategy and provide technology support to MANCO and the OpCos for Network as a Service deals and offerings
• Develop a calendar of OpCo technology strategy sessions for knowledge transfer
• Provide Network strategy input to technology business plan
• Provide network and IT insights and analysis to be integrated to the relevant technology and commercial planning functions
• Development of MTN 5-year technology strategy and future fixed and mobile network state and architecture
• Development of network architecture plan, strategy and roadmap document to provide direction and guidelines in the relevant network areas
• Provide Network and IT insights and analysis to Group
• Determine spectrum strategy for all OpCos based on technology developments and regulatory changes
• Detailed research into future technologies across mobile, carrier and digital
• Track and advise Group and Opcos of all technology impacts due to regulatory updates and changes
• Co-ordinate adoption of new technologies with the relevant technology planning department
• Strategic review of new technologies and their impact on existing environments
• Work with CTO of Opcos to understand the opportunities in Fixed Broadband and associated technologies
• Assess vendor capability and readiness for new technologies
• Engage with all relevant Global Standards organizations (GSMA, ITU, 3GPP) and industry analysts to lobby MTN requirements
• Guide the Network Planning and Design team in new and innovative solutions
• Work with respective Partners/Vendors on their innovation lab and ensure MTN takes full benefit
• Understand regulatory requirements in the network space effecting future strategies
• Assist with any merger and acquisitions and/or consolidation opportunities
• Develop the functional capabilities for Network as a Service offering in our OpCos
• Coordinate OpCo technology evolution timeline
• Integrated technology strategy blueprint
• Continuous update to business stakeholders on technology evolution

Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
Education:

• Minimum 4-year Academic Degree with Honours (B Eng. / BSc Degree Preferred)
• MBA / Masters advantageous
• English, French and Arabic (as advantage)
• Relevant certification/accreditation/membership with professional body as required for role

Expenience:

• 8-10 years relevant experience
• Minimum 5 years of Senior Management Experience, with 3 years in Network Strategy/ Telco Industry
• Work across diverse cultures and geographies
• Proven track record of business improvement and strategy development
